Sorry to hear you were in hospital Katie, hope you have a swift recovery. Day off today, it's 8pm and I can finally put my feet up! Tradies came over at 8am to fix roof, school dropoff, essential trip to the wine shop (it is the festive season after all), quick coffee with friends, Xmas shopping, grocery shopping, home to wrap presents, pick up kids & take them to dentist, home again for 1/2 hour then off to their music concert, home to wrap more pressies and unpack shopping, made dinner, dishes, put bins out and now ready for a glass of as Gert says! Almost forgot the 2 loads of washing.... you can see why I don't get on here much 😛 Back to work tomorrow, counting down until Xmas eve when I'm holidays for 2 weeks yay!

Great to hear you're all coming to Melbourne! No suggestions from me on accommodation but there's a not bad restaurant near Rydges called Trunk Diner which has a private room so could be an option for dinner. Come to think of it, the restrooms are up a flight of stairs so maybe not a good idea 😃. My MIL & FIL did the breadmaking course at the Convent a few years ago & loved it, said it was hard work though with all the kneading! I think the classes are fairly small so I doubt you could all attend at once. It is a lovely spot and they also hold a slow food market there. I'd love to be involved in some way, maybe join you on your day trip or a dinner, probably couldn't commit to the whole weekend unfortunately. I've got a couple weeks leave over Xmas/NY so if you need someone local to do some investigating let me know. Probably best to PM me as I'm not on here much these days.

Oh how I've missed this thread! I always find some good suggestions for my next read. I went through a 'heavy reading' stage for a while there, Bring Up The Bodies, then All the Light We Cannot See, then The Goldfinch. Enjoyed them all but needed something light so I've just emerged after gorging myself on Nancy Mitford. Re-read Love in a Cold Climate, then Don't Tell Alfred, then went back & re-read The Pursuit of Love which I only read about a year ago. Now I've downloaded a biography of the Mitford sisters but might go onto something else for a while

Hi all, haven't been on here for months, so funny that the first thread I read is this one! Glad to see SS is still going strong, sorry I didn't participate this year, but I hope to get on here a bit more often so I can check out the gifts. Merry Xmas to all, so nice to see your familiar "faces" again!

Hi all, thought I should pop in quickly to say Hi - haven't been reading the forum for some time so I hope you are all well. Work and kids keeping me very busy these last few months but it's all good. Not as much time for cooking these days so I keep reverting to my trusted TMX recipes, they're a lifesaver! Hope to pop in more often, in the meantime hope you are all keeping well.

I found a parcel pickup notice in my letterbox today, dated from over a week ago (don't judge me, there's yucky spider webs in there and it was buried under a couple of takeaway pamphlets). Can't for the life of me think what it could be, maybe I'll have something to add to the shopping thread if I can track down the parcel. Maybe I was doing some late night online shopping after a couple of vinos?

Finally finished The Luminaries, really enjoyed it but still scratching my head trying to work out the plot, which is a bit frustrating after reading over 800 pages! Keep thinking about it which I guess is the sign of a good book. Need something completely different so have just downloaded my first Harry Bosch book - Black Echo.

Driving up to Port Douglas today we were passed on a very sharp curve with double lines by a mangelwurzle driving a motorbike at probably double the speed limit.
Yes it is onomonopiac cookie. One of my favourite words
Gert
My dad (who was a life long motorbike enthusiast) used to call those sorts of riders "temporary Australians" Gert. I think mangelwurzle is a lot catchier though! Went to Sovereign Hill today, first time the kids have been and they loved it. Great day, well worth the drive to Ballarat. Didn't find any gold in the creek though. Watching Escape to the Country right now, yes I'm a fan too 😀 And it's onomatopoeic by the way 😉

Hi Peter, you'll soon have your TMX, how exciting. I sometimes substitute 100g of milled whole wheat for bakers flour to make whole meal bread, never tried making a loaf with all milled flour. I'm sure achookwoman (chookie) will be able to help with your bread queries, she's an expert! Enjoy your cruise and have fun with thermie when you return.

Lovely curtains DJ. it's already 35 degrees here.... Day off today, looking after girl next door while mum & dad work, she's DD2's age. And DD1 has a friend coming over soon as well, will take them all to the local pool for a couple of hours then home for some screen time in the air conditioning! I see it's going to be even hotter in SA, hope everyone is staying cool.

To hot here to do much cooking, BBQ and salad for tea tonight.
Deedub, your ice cream maker arrived - which recipe did you use for your first trial?
Wonder, I used a chocolate icecream from the recipe community, I posted a thread on here, very easy & delicious.

I have then put away for DD's birthday Cookie, just thought one would be nice to use for a photo on the forum. All packed away again now.
I hope DD doesn't read this thread Judy! 😉 I think coffee will be the next icecream flavour I attempt... Love it
