Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: Recipe Review-Rogan Josh. Indian book
« on: December 19, 2009, 07:40:39 am »
i agree and I also used ground cinnamon instead of cinnamon stick. I milled the pepper corns and cardomon seeds (used seeds instead of pods) first to a powder and then set to one side before following the recipe. This seems to make for a better dish

ok guys,

finally got it working - here are the tweaks :-

1. I used cardoman seeds instead of pods
2. The first step was to mill the cardomon seeds and pepper corns and then put them to one side. They then get put in the dish with the other ground spices.
3. I used ground cinnamon not a cinnamon stick
4. When putting all the ingrediants together and bringing to the boil I added another 100ml of water

This seemed to get around all my problems and made for a nice curry  ;D

Hi Caroline - further to your comment below, yes I do think its worth tweaking as I can see that it has the potential to be a great dish.

Sounds like you'd better give UK thermomix an update, so that they know.

I take it from your original post that the flavour is good enough to bother finding out how to tweak it to make it successful is it, Vixen?  If so I'll have a play with it myself once I'm back onto spicy foods.

i also had it covered and ended up with a huge mess on the bottom that took ages to clean off. I will be trying it again during the xmas holidays and will be adding more liquid. will let you know how it goes

look forward to hearing how you girls go with it :)

i guess all i can do is try again with the oven set at a lower temp :(

yes I did use the yoghurt.
Below is their reply :-

Thank you for your inquiry.

We haven't had a problem with this recipe so I am wondering if you are using a fan oven with the fan on.
If so, please select your "no fan" setting.

If this does not apply I recommend that you use an oven thermometer to check the actual temperature of your oven. Actual temperatures can vary from oven to oven.

thanks. i have dropped them an email. WIll let you know the reply

Hi guys,

Need your help. Made the rogan josh out of the Indian cookbook but after 1 hour in the oven could smell burning and found that the sauce had dried up. The curry still tasted great but there is no way it could have stayed in the oven for the 2 hours as stated. Has anyone else had this problem? I checked the recipe and I followed it correctly, is there a fault in the water weight as 60g obviously isn't enough. HELP!

Hi Guys,

have you tried Perth Australia? You would love it. I am orig from Manchester. lived there for 31 years and really miss the curries since moving here! Perth isnt a big city and still has a rural feel about it. You should try the butter chicken in the tmx. Its pretty good.

Introduce Yourself / hello from yet another Perth Person

Hello guys,

Just found this forum today. I have had my thermomix for about 2 years and love it. All my babies food is cooked/made in it and I am working my way thru the festive recipe book as we speak. Love making the main courses and dips. Not that great on the cakes but getting better and rubbish at making the bread. Love getting new recipe books and love going to the cooking classes they do.
