roybn a 2bedroom place in my area is $ 560

That  is expensive. The wages in Sydney must be a lot higher than here.  I don't know  how some people manage. Living on a pension is hard enough but at least everything is owned.

When I see what people pay for school shoes I wonder the kids don't go bare foot. Raising a family today is  far more expensive .  I never even owned a stroller  and the cost of those things are astro.

That's astronomical Uni. Is it so expensive because of the business side of things?

Gert, I used to live in Cairns North, near the hockey fields....

$370 rent for a house in yungaburra is crazy.
wish I could earn $1200 per week.

My Thermomix,  Kitchen Aid, Pizza oven, Nu Wave 5 in 1, Spatulas, all brings love, laughter, happiness, and great food  to my kitchen.

Wow Uni. I can't believe your house insurance. That's astronomical! We used to live in the outskirts of Sydney and recall our cost of living to be higher than qld, especially food. Don't get me started on when we used to rent in the Eastern suburbs!
Gert, it's really sad that your house insurance has gone up so much that you are considering not insuring. We went through the same issue. Our premiums have tripled in the Lockyer Valley for obvious reasons and we really considered not insuring but can't afford the risk. We were not flooded in jan 2011 and didn't make a claim and we could safely say after those levels we could be relatively safe but then we have to consider things other than flood.  Insurance companies have us over a barrel.

Is the benefit of shopping at the local farmers market for your F & V because its fresher than the supermarkets? Or also cheaper? We have one but I rarely shop there.

For me it's the freshness. The supermarket near me has the most tragic fruit & veg, whatever I buy has to be used basically straight away as within 2 days it's unusable.

Insurance rates all go on what the crime rate is in your area, ( how safe).

For the markets, its the freshness and price here.
picked one day, sold the next, not spending months in storage.

Yes, they've got you over a barrell for anything commercial - loans, mortgages, insurance, different phone rates, different electricity rates, even rubbish collection.  Regardless of the size of the business you still get stung.  It's very hard to keep going at times.

I didn't realise that electricity and rubbish collection was charged differently.

Did hear on the news last night that electricity is going up 20%.
