We live opposite to an environmental park so we get quite a few snakes visiting.  Most of them are harmless greens which we just ignore, but the pythons sometimes get to go for a drive.  We have chickens and breed budgies which the snakes like to come and snack on.  We have removed snakes from breeding boxes, laying boxes etc and also around chickens bodies.  My husband gets the honour of doing that.....I'm not scared of them but after growing up on acreage prior to the protection of snakes, my first inclination is to find a nice sharp shovel.  My husband catches them, puts them in a hessian sack and drives them up to the Koala park about a kilometre from where we live.  My mother had the dubious joy one Christmas day of driving up our driveway at just the wrong time...my husband had just caught a snake.  She blocked his car in, so he just hopped in the passenger seat of her car holding the hessian bag and told her to drive.  She wasn't overly amused.

Hugs Cookie, have another port or 3.
Snakes, when we lived up north I ran over a hug snake, was too scared to get out of the car and see where it went, worried  for weeks that the snake  was under the car and going to pop through the aircon vents,  drove around in the heat with the aircon off, vents and windows closed.
Spiders in the car, pushed the sun visor up and there is a giant spider on the wind screen, (that I hadn't seen) DD's saying mum I think you need to pull over NOW, I was in my PJ taking DD to a party.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!

How about waking up to go to the toilet and finding a snake  on the floor between you and the toilet?  There is no one else in the house bar two sleeping doggies. What do you do?

That's when you need to be wearing your depend undies Gert.

DH being a Kiwi is terrified of snakes. Thay don't have any snakes in NZ. Living in the bush we have the odd snake or two.
I'm not overly fond of them myself but want kill them so my Harry the cocker spaniel doesn't decide to play with them.

They are often at my parents place in summer.. Eeek wrapped around pots or sunning themselves on the long driveway etc ... I always check under the beds and all over when im there... I broke my funny bone because of a snake.. Horse freaked out and threw me into a tree... Anything else i can handle..

I love a good storm but am terrified of spiders and especially snakes after I had one slither over my foot after dark on Fraser Island when I was putting some rubbish out- what's even worse is that I had one of my twins next to me and I just scooped her up and stood like a statue, petrified that the snake (which I couldn't identify in the dark) was going to bite me or worse, my daughter. Fortunately, the snake moved on and all was well. I am also petrified about the thought of one of my kids jumping into water and drowning- I know the sound of that is awful but I am very nervous whenever we're near water even though my DH and I can both swim and my twins are having swimming lessons but it just terrifies me!

I've thoroughloy enjoyed reading about snakes, mice etc.
I'm scared of snakes too, but the wind fear is almost beyond that. I think it has calmed down a bit, but I'm scared it will come up again. I'm stupid I know.
I think it stems from a few cyclones as a child when we crouched under the table and I watched entire windmills concreted into the ground just fly away.
I'm usually fine if it's someone elses house or caravan though. so if it's windy in Gracetown I should be fine. I'll just smuggle a ;port to bed with me. It will give me a reason for snoring.

Cookie, I'm very jittery when it is windy.  I love listening to the rain, but not when the wind is howling as well.  I also am terrified of snakes.  They make my skin crawl.
