What are you terrified of?
« on: June 06, 2012, 02:11:12 am »
I had to start this topic as I'm sitting in the van, with it shaking like crazy, because of the wind. It started about 5 last night when we had a ghastly squall come in and nearly rip the awning off. So we took that down and had to cover our freezer and Engel with boat raincoats so that they wouldn't get wet. Then about 2am it started to pour so DH has put the awning up again to protect them. So it is now daylight and it hasn't let up at all. We are only about 20metres from the oceans edge and it is quite beautiful in its rage. I just wish there was no wind.
I usually have a port or two when the wind comes up, but it is still very early to do that. I think I might though, followed by a mint so no one can smell it on me.

So what are you terrified of? Bet you can't tell that with me it's WIND. I've been checking the weather and it is supposed to ease later today 9or tomorrow which is great. But Sunday is supposed to be even worse.

I am one big very scaredy cat at the moment.
Thanks for listening reading. :-*

I can sympathise.  We used to have a holiday house on Moreton Island and we commuted back and forth by boat.  I used to lay awake on Saturday night listening for the wind because I knew that unless it was really really EXTREME weather, my father would be putting us on the boat on the Sunday and heading back to the Mainland.  It could be blowing 30 knots and we would still head back.  We had a jet powered boat and I can still remember the howl of the engine when the boat leapt out of the water.  My sister and I would be crouching in the bottom of the boat hanging on for dear life to our two dogs and praying that we made it back in one piece.  Even now, twenty odd years later, a strong wind makes me nervous.  The things we do to kids!

Thinking of you today and hoping that everything is going well and that the weather is easing.

Take care of yourself and yours

We experienced some wild weather at Easter at Wilson's promontory. Camping in tents at the southernmost point of mainland australia with 130km/h winds is not something I would recommend! Needless to say the camping trip got cut short - at least our tent survived, many others didn't. Can't say I was terrified though - but if a spider had sought shelter in the tent it would have been a different story!

I am quite a scaredy cat :-[ Spiders, sharks, horror movies (or even just crime TV shows), strange noises when I am alone at night, axe-weilding psychopaths....

I'm not as bad as I used to be though :D

I've got to admit, I love a stormy night when I am nice and snug in bed or in front of the fire, not so keen on it in a tent or caravan.  I sympathise with you, and hope your van is well lashed down to some good strong anchor points.

I'm not sure that I could say I am terrified of anything in particular.  There are heaps of things I hate and would not like to meet down a dark alley at night (spiders for one) and I would hate to lose any of my faculties - I couldn't imagine not being able to use my hands  or to be able to see things, etc.

I also love a good storm but it would be unnerving in a caravan or tent.

I'm scared of the things that grow in the back of the fridge and also gelatin.  Every time I use gelatin I end up with rubber balls and it never mixes through properly, especially with cheesecakes.  So now I'm scared.

I remember you mentioning this before Cookie and if a glass of port helps, you go and have it  ;D  I am not fond of wind either but not to the same extent as you - always feel safe inside the house. Big hugs Cookie, try and stay calm.  :-* :-* :-*
My fear was spiders but I seem to have become less terrified these days unless they are big and furry like a huntsman.  I can kill any spider bar one of those and I have to get someone to do it for me whilst I make sure DH keeps his eye on it so that it doesn't disappear.  I could never sleep knowing there is one in the house.

Like Cuilidh, I also like a good storm as long as I am safe inside.  The thing I hate the most are snakes.  When we lived in an old farm house and the children were small I saw one on the front verandah.  Told the kids to stay inside and I attacked it with an axe only to discover it was dead anyway, the cat had killed it and brought it home to show off.  I'm also not too fond of huntsmen but can cope with them.

Poor Cookie, hope the wind has settled. And you are safe. I was once,in a cyclone and understand your fear. Simply terrifying.

Snakes are my big fear. I grew up on a property and snakes were a daily occurrence in summer. Should have made me tough, but didn't work that way!

How about waking up to go to the toilet and finding a snake  on the floor between you and the toilet?  There is no one else in the house bar two sleeping doggies. What do you do?
