You're right about a lot of the young girls today not sewing Cookie, my DD gives me all her mending jobs.
Just got back from DS, finished the curtains, he was well pleased. His vacuum cleaner had blown up also, so I took mine over, he vacuumed while I sewed. That's my good deed for the day.
On the way home I called into the Newsagwpent to see if the new Thermomix magazine was in. The guy told me, if it was released today that would be Sydney or Melb, we should have it by Thursday. He is putting it aside for me.

I'm another one that gets all the sewing and alterations that need doing. DD can sew but why do it if mum can and DIL doesn't have a clue which end of the needle to thread.

Our GD, Jilly has asked for a sewing machine for Xmas. She has just made a T shirt for her self which she sewed by hand. Her step mother then sewed it for her. Lucky kid. It is quite lovely as she is very creative.

That's lovely Chookie.
It looks as though I will have to wait to look at the magazine Katj.

I would like to be able to sew and knit, and crochet. However, I have other skills, and struggle to find the time to learn these, when I have so many other things I'm also trying to learn. But one day I'll try to learn a bit more. I know the basics and can thread my sewing machine.

That's the hardest part for me, even wearing glasses. It sometimes takes me longer to thread the needle than mend a garment or take up the odd pair of trousers.

I bought a new sewing machine a few years ago and was highly amused to find that it was referred to as a sewing computer!!!
Thanks for that link, Uni, I aleady knew about the needle threader but the following video showed how to use the inbuilt needle threader on a "sewing computer" - I have got one of these on my new s.c. but had never figured out how to use it so now, with luck, the one on my machine works the same as the one on the video and, if it does, I will be vey happy!

I love my sewing machine with inbuilt needle threader! Magic little invention. I have great intentions of sewing more than I do, but never seem to find the time.
luckily I had hemmed two pairs of wide legged pants couple of days before I broke my ankle - they were all I could fit over my cast other than skirts which weren't really warm enough!
And Obbie, you are right, it is often cheaper to buy. Except I am wondering about DDs leggings - the bought ones are generally very thin fabric that wears through in no time. I think that will be my next thing to make - pretty simple sewing and my mum lives near a fabric factory where we can get knit material pretty cheap. Otherwise it's just another hobby really, not a money saver.
