I've never had medlars so I was surprised I recognised them (at least I am guessing that they are medlars!), and your crab apples look great.They make a very pretty display.

Yes , the brown ones are Medlars. I was told that all modern apples are developed from them.  The red ones are a form of hawthorn. I thought they were crab apples and was about to make jam from them. Fortunately I was told that they are full of cyanide before I made the jam.

That was handy to find out before you made the jam and poisoned all your neighbours and friends Chookie.

They are the biggest hawthorns I have ever seen ... I agree with Judy!

That would have been horrid. Who would have ever thought they had cyanide in.

Learn something every day , I thought they looked like crab apples too . Medlars are an acquired taste and if all modern apples were made from Medlars.
