Our new book club book is The Blind Man of Seville by Robert Wilson. I will probably start it in a few days. I am reading another chick lit at the moment. I'm enjoying it too.

Hello my Australian reading friends (and those elsewhere if you are so inclined)!
When was the last time you read a book by an Australian woman writer?  Interested in righting a nasty gender bias against them in this country?

Going to book club tonight.  Looking forward to seeing what has been chosen.  Will post title when I get the book.

Amanda, I love Liz Byrski books and have read a couple. Also Mary Moody and Charlotte Wood. I actually prefer women writers.

ATM I'm reading our book club one, Bandaid for a Broken Leg by Damien Brown, an Aussie doctor with Doctors without Borders. I'm enjoying it immensely - he has a wonderful self deprecating way about him.

This is an interesting item which I found from a link on Liz Burski's site about silly book covers for lady novelists.

Excellent article thanks MJ - I've Tweeted it with AWW hashtag - I'm sure plenty of women writers and readers will be interested in it.

MJ I loved that book. It was informative, sincere and yet humourous.

Amanda I enjoy Liz Bryski's books. I enjoy Rachel Johns books (a WA author who writes the farm romance genre) , Judy Nunn, Loretta Hill, Fiona Palmer (she came and gave our book club a talk and is from WA),Anna Jacobs, who spends 6 months of the year here in Mandurah and also Monica McInernay, who spends 6 months in Australia (Adelaide I think) and 6 months  in Ireland ( I think it is).
I'm sure there are others. These are all light reads but I enjoy them.

Amanda, I've recently read Liz Byrski's latest book, a book by Kathryn Fox, and Flock, by Lyn Hughes. I seem to gravitate towards women writers. I'm lucky that my MIL is an avid reader, and we both like similar books, so I have a huge pile waiting for me that she has lent me.

Today I got my book club book- You gotta have balls, by Lily Brett. The inside cover says that she has lived in Australia, but now resides in New York with her Australian husband.

I'm about to start The Mother's Group - so I can talk about it with.... my mother's group! Oh, and have finally finished reading the Famous Five series to the kids - all 21 books! So now I'm reading them Going Solo by Roald Dahl, which is actually an autobiography. I wouldn't have chosen it for them (miss 9 chose), but they're loving it! Bit like a "boys own" story I guess.

Yes I loved Famous Five too. I didn't enjoy Secret Seven anywhere near as much.

I loved them too Kezza and I was really disappointed that none of my 4 kids got into Enid Blyton when they were young.
I loved the Nancy Drew books too but Enid Blyton was my favourite  :D

Me too!!

I adored the Famous Five books. Mum told me that she let me pack once when we were going away. She forgot to check my case and when we got there, all I had packed were my Famous Five books and my bathers!!
