I think that was the problem Michele, the book says 4-5 mins for bought bases.

The base may have been OK at 4-5mins, although the topping was perfect at 8 mins.

Oh, Michele that is awful.  haven't used any of the bought bases yet but does sound like it was too long.  Did you have it on baking paper?

I would say 8 minutes was far too long with bought base....what were your toppings?  Usually I only cook the thick pita bases with varied toppings  for 3 minutes...4 minutes at absolute max.
I would suggest cooking at no. 2, until you get the feel for it, and then you can gauge the best timing for the bases used.

Mich I found the bazaar base thicker and not as good as the pittes ones that were out of stock, the bazaar base did not cook all the way through like the pittes ones they were nice and crisp, maybe you had too much topping?????

Yes Chookie had it on baking paper and that was burnt as well. I checked it every 2 mins to see how it was going.
I had to bin a lot of my cooking yesterday, wasn't having a very good day, cooking wise.
Lunch today will be very basic.

My pizza machine arrived yesterday - YAY - pizzas for dinner tonight (with luck) - I'll have to go right through this thread as well as all the others to see how everything and everyone has got on with theirs and get some topping suggestions and ideas.

Michele,  I find that when I get a new machine,  I need to play with it to understand what it will do.  The chooks eat very well while I am playing.   You will get a good result.

I picked up some fruit and veggies at a lovely spot just before we came away and noticed that they had Theo (of the pizza book) frozen pizza bases.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Yay! Mine arrived yesterday. I knew it would because I made oven pizza the day before!

I made pizza with the thin and crispy base which were perfect. Today, I made two more using Bazaar wholemeal pitta breads. Just as nice. I didn't actually time them, but about 4 minutes.

My criticism of the machine would be the lack of timer and also the fact that there's no grip on the bottom of the legs. I find it slides around on the bench because it's so lightweight.

I have found that the baking paper burns if it's larger than the pizza base. I thought I might cut up some silicone and use that rather than throwing away heaps of circles of baking paper all the time.

A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Do you mean those thin re-usable liners? I'm not sure how a thicker silicone would go as you probably wont get that crispy base. The only thing is, that you would not be able to cut up the pizzas on the liner. I have liners and paper, so I would be interested in what you think works better.

I have used both baking paper and a silicon liner.  The paper burns around the edge and I slide the pizza off and cut on a wooden board which I take to the table.  The silicon liner ,  I cut to circle shape and it is showing signs of burning around the edges.  The base still crisps up with the silicon.
