Our new Christmas baby "Thermie"

Hi all..
I am so excited to find the forum and learn tips and tricks from all you talented ladies (and gents!).

I had my demo about 6 months ago and found that although impressed with the versatility of the TMX, my partner could not quite justify the cost. Funny that I - (who does all the cooking) could justify the cost !! So I arranged the purchase on my own accord hoping my partner would eventually come around to the idea! And welcome thermie to our household just in time for Christmas!

He was delivered about 3 weeks ago and on the first night I made stock with my consultant. My partner was away on business at the time and came home the next day to see something new in the fridge and decided to take a big spoonful to sample! Needless to say it was a rather salty unpleasant surprise!

Since then... and amidst the chaos of the silly season I have found a tiny bit of spare time to make a few kilos of hommus,(!!) some melon and mint sorbet, beetroot dip, lettuce soup, carrot and coriander soup, countless beetroot salads, steamed salmon with parmesan and mint quinoa, the delicious christmas waldorf salad from the festive flavour book, odette's onion jam and some roast tomato passata with risoni.

My partner has been very impressed with all of the above and even bought me the travel bag, QFITT and FFS recipe books for Christmas - so I guess he is now a convert! YAY!

I am pescetarian - eat only fish (not shellfish or crustaceans) and my partner is a meatlover.
I need to find a balance between the dishes I will love to eat and those that he will enjoy.
If anybody has any great vego or chicken dishes to recommend please send them my way!

And be careful all my newbie friends - I sliced my finger while cleaning the blades from my risoni the other day. They are sooooooo sharp!!

Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year ! I have my vodka and berries on stand by for some holiday sorbet!

Is that the green and white bristled one with the green handle?? If so I think I already have it -  ;)

Just had a particularly sticky mess with the risoni and took the blades out (ouch!).


I have also ditched the TMX spatula for a standard one (except for sorbet) - are other users doing this too?

I find the surface area of the TMX too small and a little awkward to use...

I think most  clever users of the TMX  have  bought this kit.  Saves a lot of angst. A lot of members of this forum have share the scrubbies  , brushes and spatulas for Christmas.  I was lucky enough  that Santa sent me some spares which are very welcome.

Hi Minda - and a very warm welcome . . you will never regret joining this group of fabulously friendly and informative people!  Can only second Gert's recommendation re the superkitchenmachine site - I have a couple of the spatulas and brushes - invaluable!!! :)

Hi Minda and welcome to the forum, sounds like you are off to a great start, I think most of us only use the TMX spatula for stirring sorbet, I have a collection of different sized silicone spatula's I find the stiffer ones are best, the knife from Superkitchens is invaluable if you are going to be making bread and rolls.

Hi Minda, welcome to the forum.  I'm glad to hear that your partner has come around and is enjoying the spoils of the Thermomix and has even contributed to it by buying the extra books for you - both are great recipe books.

Hi Minda and welcome to the forum. Great you have converted your DH in a short space of time. Try Baf's chicken everyone likes it and so easy to add your own spin on it.

You could cook it without the bacon, cook some separately in a frying pan to stir through DH's portion, and stir a fillet of flaked, steamed fish through yours? That would accomodate both of your dietary regimes, and it is so yummy! :D

Thanks everyone for your friendly replies! Its great to feel welcomed and immediately part of something  :). I think time will be my only enemy as this forum and the web seem to be an unlimited source of inspiration!

Regarding the spatula - I can't believe that there is already another accessory on my wish list! I watched the video and it certainly does look like its a more practical shape for the bowl. Thanks Gert and Goldfish for the recommendation!!! Are there any other things to complement the TMX that more experienced users rave about???

Thanks also for the carbonara recipe... it does certainly have to be low fat for my it to appeal to my partner so that's great. There is some leftover christmas ham I could substitute for the bacon too..... and great to see so many variations of the recipe. I look forward to trying that along with Bafs chicken - as some of my first meat dishes... I am also keen to try some of the curries too. Thanks Amy and Kimmyh.

The best thing I have found so far is being creative with leftovers - where normally things may be thrown out I can find a way to use them in the TMX and create a new meal or accompaniment!!!

I now look forward to finding my way around the site and understanding which questions to post where!!

Welcome to the forum Minda. You got two great books for Christmas. Have you got the TMX vegetarian cookbook?
