Magimix 2200 Gelato Chef
« on: October 14, 2013, 07:19:03 am »
I would love one of these machines. It's a compressor model and appears to be the best after numerous searches and reviews. However, I can't seem to find this model available in Australia. Has anyone seen or heard of them?
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

You can get them over here, but that's not much help. Very expensive. Mixed reviews, most people happy with magimix, some are not!

If I was buying an ice cream machine I'd get this one - a buffalo

DJ, can I ask why you would buy a Buffalo one ? I've been keeping my eye out on Gumtree (online classifieds) for a compressor ice cream machine and they just don't come up (well not local to me anyway).  Anyway, this one is $214 which is quite cheap for a compressor model ! But I've never heard of the brand before so just wondered what you know about them ? Only thing is it doesn't have a special paddle for gelato (not sure if that really matters when making gelato ??).

Because the reviews are reasonable so is the price. No other reason.
I believe it makes ice cream quite well, and if sold to the catering trade must be up to the task.

It would be a purchase in good faith, and I'd have to hope for best. If my business goes well then I will consider as we will have cream and eggs here to make ice cream. It is on my real wish list.

I ordered it today !! Can't beat the price for a compressor ice cream machine. DJ it's about the same price in dollars as pounds  so it makes it quite cheap here ! I had 5 kids here today so had a crazy moment lol

I'll let you know how I get on !

We'll all be round for icecream. What flavour will be first?

It arrived yesterday. We were all excited and I said to my DS4, what ice cream can we make ? We unpacked it all then ........ it had a sticker on it saying that it needs to sit for 12 hours or you could void your warranty. I guess it's much like when you move a fridge ..... the compressor needs time to settle.

So today ......... we are making the basic vanilla ice cream in the book and when the kids get home from school, chocolate ice cream. In the next couple of days I'll make Chookies's licorice ice cream .......... it looks soooooo good ! But have to keep the kids happy first !

Thanks DJ, sure will. We''ve finished the vanilla ice cream. It was lovely but DS4 not so keen. He wants chocolate !! I'm making him a little bit of chocolate now. Only thing is when the ice cream was ready and it was really thick and the paddle wouldn't turn, it doesn't switch itself off ! A bit scary in a way, maybe you could end up burning the motor out if you weren't watching !!

Can anyone with the Cuisinart compressor model tell me if theirs switches itself off when the paddle can't move ?
