This thread is fantastic.
It has inspired me to use up what I already have in freezer and pantry.
It is saving me money and time and creating space.
I might try and apply the same principle to my wardrobe and cupboards!
Thanks Gert for starting this quiet revolution. :)

Likewise from me, too, Gert!! It can be amazing what you don't see what's right in front of you until someone points it out!! Thank you!! :)

As I was up early this morning, thought I would start cooking. Fried rice from lasts nights leftover boiled rice and vegies from the crisper as it is the end of the week. In the pantry I found a jar of lemon butter. I can't remember buying it  ???  It's use by date was June 2013 - it was really fine. Made Nigella's lemon puddings with that.

My freezer is still empty. Still eating the soup! Still not shopping except for barest.  I need to empty more stuff from the pantry before I reorganise it. Not shopping at all really. Not cooking either though. On a mission to rid myself of bad habits of 50 years.

I must say I am very impressed I have 6 chicken & leek pies & 1 pumpkin soup in my freezer as prepared meals. Lots of stock & some curry pastes, but its really empty.

Have a kilo of bol sauce cooking for cps lunches :)

I think I will be 100 before I empty my big freezer.  I am keeping at it by not buying any meat , fish or Chicken.   The good thing is that it is saving me heaps.

A complete pantry meal tonight - had a tin of tomato soup, left over sausages from yesterday BBQ & an old recipe from my MIL ended up with a very simple pasta dish.  Sauté an onion, then added tin soup, tin tomatoes, sliced sausages cooked 10 mins added some cheese poured over spaghetti ... result DH & DD loved it and finished it all off with the bread we had made  :)

had 500g diced lamb in the freezer from early 2012 and made a lamb curry with another fresh lot of 500g. Pulled some basmati rice out and a stock cube and Umani paste portion. Happy with getting rid of a couple of freezer things, but whew I reckon the stock/umami paste sure salted up the recipe a bit. No one said anything but 3 outta 4 were hungry males.

I want to see that light in my freezer so this challenge when there are some people around is really good.

Good on you CP. My freezer is still empty apart from dog food . What a novel idea to put dates on food for the freezer. LOL!  I know now that if I decide to freeze anything apart from frozen veggies that it will all be post May 2014!

Today is day 18 in not cooking a proper meal. Still picking at the pantry and eating lots of steamed vegetables. DH is managing by using his limited culinary skills heating up meat pies and takeaway crap. Good on him. Perhaps he will learn to appreciate  all that I do cook for him but I doubt it. Bad mistake spoiling DH for 49 years.

Loving the freedom of eating what I want when I want. I am quite surprised that I  am not wanting to eat as much and not missing cooking. That is the most surprising of all. I wonder if this cooking caper is addictive. Not  even thinking about food. This may wear off  but meanwhile I have hung up my apron and I won't be putting it back on until I get an apology for bad behaviour!

I still have one can of Spam  so all good.

It is a lovely feeling looking in the freezer and seeing so much space. My meat freezer is full to the top. The fridge freezer in the garage is about 1/4 full which is a huge improvement, I am used to everything falling on top of me when I open the door. The kitchen freezer drawer is my next project, its full to the top of what I really do not know :o interesting project.

Mich for a short time I think I will be able to turn off 1 chest freezer :o :o :o not to turn it on until my next bulk meat buy.

Yes Gert I think cooking is addictive & food hoard I am not sure what that is ???
