Cooking a selection of curries as my DH and DS want some spicy food after a month in Brazil.
They found the food very bland and boring. Enormous serves of meat at every meal but totally lacking in flavour.

They had a fabulous trip JD and funnily enough despite the boring bland food they both came home a bit larger than when they left  ;D
They said the atmosphere in Rio was electric with fans from all over the world in good spirits. ( possibly due to partaking of other spirits)  ;)

I'm sure the most important thing was to have a good time, and they did.

Made Teninas Granuesli (TM) for when we're in Croatia. They don't have breakfast and usually lunch is not until 2pm or sometimes later. Apart from coffee of course, but I'm a tea drinker so I don't get that 'kick'. I can't exist on a piece of toast and jam so I'm going to be better prepared this year. None of the restaurants in Podgora served brekky until 11:30  :o Anyway, I also made Butter Chicken (PC) made Date and Walnut muffins from forum also as I had medjool dates that would probably get thrown out while I'm gone. So muffins are now frozen for either house sitters to use or when we get back. Also some of Alyce's Cheats Sourdough

I'm surprised by the bland food comment. Was it all just too commercial where they were MF?

They were there for a month INAID and ate in local restaurants in all the cities they visited as well as in their home base in Rio.
They found the food very boring and  served in gigantic  portions.  They were very disappointed as they thought the food would have been interesting and flavoursome. They found a little Italian restaurant which was the best food that they had until they arrived back to Dubai.

MF,  I am finding your comments very interesting.  I have a Brazilian cooking book and went through it to cook something interesting for the Forum.  Couldn't find anything to take my fancy.

Yes Chookie after what DH and DS experienced I am not surprised. Both of them are good eaters who like most foods be it fine dining, street food or home cooking. They seldom complain and will eat and enjoy most foods that they are served. I was extremely surprised by their assessment of the food that they ate during the month that they were in Brazil. Both are well travelled and this is the first country that they have consistently not enjoyed the food. Like everyone they will have had a few dishes while overseas that they may not enjoy but 95% of the time is to their liking.
I find your comment about your Brazilian cookbook interesting too as you and Ral are well travelled and enjoy good food. There seems to be a parallel here.

I've made a sourdough and have it in the fridge until tomorrow. I hope to make Ciabiatta rolls from it. We will see what happens. I also have a normal SD rising at the moment and cookies about to be made.
