Busy weekend cooking an unexpected Scotch Broth because I came across a fresh swede for a change and couldn't resist it, a pot of pumpkin soup, Moroccan and sweet potato stew and a roast veg frittata.

Marina, your cooking sounds lovely, all except for the swede I really don't like them.

Cookie, your bread always look nice and the cake sounds yummy.

Judy, I like the look of the creamy curried caulisotto.

Mab, swede really is a delicious vegetable, but it has to have had a frost on it to sweeten it so if you buy it early in the season it won't be particularly nice, but at the end of the season (I am guessing this one must have been in cold storage, unfortunately, all things considered, i.e. the time of year) and if you can buy it at a farmers market or good green grocer it is worth giving it a try.

I only like it in soups or casseroles, guess everyone uses it for that.  I know DH used to get it served up as one of the veggies on his plate when he was a child, he hated it but back in those days you ate what was on your plate or else!

We used to get mashed swede as kids.  I’ve never really liked the taste but do use it in soups. DH loves raw turnip.  It has to be home grown though.
I made a Anzac cake. It has a filling in the centre and on the top of rolled oats, golden syrup etc.

I love a mash of swede, carrot and potato - DH thinks this is blasphemy as swede should always arrive with haggis - unless it is in Scotch Broth (guess where he comes from?)

Today I’ve made Apple cakes, lemon butter , plain scones and date scones, and chicken sate and fried rice. Yesterday Portuguese Custard Tarts for the nurses. This is the most cooking I’ve done for 2 weeks.

Chookie, good that you are getting into cooking again.  It is a positive distraction and help in times like this.

Today was an Indonesian chickpea satay, vege stock concentrate, masses of brown rice and a ginger, tofu and pumpkin curry (hence the rice!)
