KAtie, that sounds delicious. Love figs but not many grown by my friends this year. Friend brought big bunch of Rhubarb. Have passes most on but kept small amount. Will make French pastries with strips of rhubarb over almond filling.
I’ve hacked a chicken into pieces. Grilled a bit for dinner last night. Will make various dishes today and freeze.

The fig almond yoghurt cake is an Ottolenghi recipe on his web sight . I just did it in TMX . Finding ground star anise was impossible but I just brought a packet and found the loose seeds and zapped them in TMX . In fact you could put rhubarb on top instead .

I made a Classic loaf today. For some reason it isn’t rising as much as usual. I think it’s probably because my starter had to be renewed. Hopefully it will improve.

Ground up some seeds and made a loaf. Beating my awful oven by cooking bread in pots with lid on.

Marina, I have 2 awful ovens. Euro brand. They burn every thing that’s in the oven for more the 30 minutes. The top element is out of sinc with the bottom element. It’s a challenge. I’ll probably replace them, but no now as there are other more pressing things to attend to first.
I’ve roasted 1/2 a Chook in the oven today. Covered with foil until it was cooked. Needed constant attention.

My old oven was like yours, Chookie, I had to turn everything around every 10 minutes then change racks every 20 or so minutes - I did get used to it, but it was hard work.

My old oven was terrible, it was about 30* out and only cooked things when it felt like it. The best thing I ever did was to buy a new one, now everything cooks like it is supposed to.

I made some yo yos today. DD and D H said they didn’t want them filled.
I also made some butter from cream that was marked down, but when I worked it out it really wasn’t that much cheaper.

Mab, smiled at your comment about your oven.
Marina, I can relate to that.
Yesterday, cooked 14 SD crumpets and Anzacs with macadamia nuts.

Judy, saw your comment about the stew. That is very good. I’m wondering if it is just going to take time before you can eat more variety.
Yesterday I baked a seed cake. It is a butter cake and when still warm was soft. I thought you might be able to eat this. However when it cooled it was still very nice but firmer so probably not so good for you.

Time will tell Chookie, my mouth will only do what it wants on any given day. On the odd occasion I go out to dinner I will always have a chip from someone’s plate as I seem to be able to get one down before my mouth dries up. I still can’t fully understand why so I will try anything if I get the opportunity. Eg Drakes had a veggie pasty out for half price so I bought it, heated it up, squirted sauce all over it and with the help of 600mls of water I managed to eat almost half of it. It didn’t taste like I remember and it wasn’t easy but at least I had something different for tea that night. Cake is impossible to eat, anything with flour in it is too difficult to bother with.
