I had a go at making sticky finger buns today, adding some sultanas to the dough.

I'm really happy with these, though my shaping of the longer buns need finessing (I made 4 finger shaped and 4 round). The icing was nice too as I'm not a fan of the blobs of thick icing that you usually get on these sort of buns.  For the first time of making, I'm pleased with the results.   :)

JulieO another great look photo. Is the finger bun recipe on here? They look so good and I could make them for DS with no added nasties in them  :D

Mandi, lovely to hear from you. Nice to see you still cooking though ;)
Uni, you will have to post that recipe with the exact quantities in desserts.
JulieO - they look just like shop bought only better.  Sometimes I wish I was your neighbour so I could pop over for a coffee and treat.

We are having a group of friends over for a meal next Saturday and I want to give them all a Christmas hamper so today I have made
Rocky Road, Madras curry powder from the Indian cookbook, Chilli salt, and have Chocolate fudge on the go at the moment.

No Hally, I used the one on the forum with clinkers, raspberries, mini marshmallows and chocolate.  Just click on the link I gave above.

Judy I would love you as a neighbour too  :D

I will post the recipe for the buns under the bread section.  I was going to wait until I'd fine tuned it, they actually taste more like London buns (does anyone else remember them?), more than the lighter finger buns, but it could be that I kneaded the dough too much when mixing the fruit in.

Next time I want to make them fruitless just to see if they will be softer, but they are still really nice.  I purposely didn't add any spices so they wouldn't taste like hot cross buns. They are based on Chookie's no fuss rolls.   ;D

I'm baking cookies today having measured out most of the ingredients yesterday.

I'm using the TMX as a mixer for the already measured ingredients but started with chopping some nuts.

I'm also using both my mixers, the 6 quart KA and the Electrolux DLX for the big batch of honey oatmeal cookies that won't fit in the KA and it has to be mixed a long time to develop the correct dough consistency.

Once the doughs are mixed, it will be time to begin baking them off but that task may be held over to tomorrow.  All of the recipes I'm working on are okay held in the fridge overnight.  In fact, some are better.

I take trays of cookies to the women's shelter, to the senior citizen's center (even though I am older than many of the residents, I am still able to do plenty of baking), to the firehouse down the road and they go into my holiday baskets for gifts to friends who prefer homemade goodies to store bought.

I really enjoy it.  I don't make as many as I did ten years ago, when I had help for the cleaning up after and some of the more onerous tasks.

These cookies are all ones that store easily and keep for weeks.  Some are better after they have "aged" for a while.  I leave the things such as Pizzelles for the last minute because they get tough after several days.  Same with the "lace" type cookies.  They have to be make shortly before distribution.

The molasses cookies, made with sorghum (or black treacle) get better with age, especially if they contain raisins.
Last year I made a batch of molasses, oatmeal, raisin cookies that were still good at Easter.
