Many moons ago (30 years)  when diet books was my thing i read something that i well never forget

On a morning show today they were actually talking about the diet secrets of the French. They said that they are very self controlled, and take the time to choose and enjoy what they eat ie. choosing one pretty macaron instead of a whole box. The bread is not so light and fluffy, eat cheese, shop at markets, and they eat a lot of protein. They are practical and wear ballet/flat shoes as it is easier to walk and ride a bike. They also spend ALOTon lingerie - so all that self control must pay off when they stand in front of the mirror.

I've got a bike, but there are some pretty steep hills between me and the market. The farmers markets are only open every Saturday, so I guess that means that I'd have to really cut back on the food if I had to do a weekly shop on my bike  :-))

My hubby says that too and I am not a breakfast person.

I am not a breakfast person either. I usually just have coffee until morning tea where I usually have a muffin and coffee.
Exercise is a dirty word... Every time I hear it, I wash my mouth out with chocolate

I force myself to eat a piece of wholemeal toast, otherwise by 10.30am I am starving and will eat anything in sight.

I have to eat breakfast every day. I get hungry around 10-10:30 even when I eat a good breakfast.

This morning for breakfast I had to eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and some baby spinach all washed down with coffee. I don't eat like this every morning. On swimming mornings I don't usually have time so I eat a home made muesli, fruit and plain yoghurt.

We probably do eat too much for our evening meal.

DD, you mentioned swimming. What do you do?

DS a very keen swimmer, has wide feet so swims fast for his age, he has a swimmers bipuild, wide shoukders etc.  He s keen to get into competive swimming, he has just turned 8.

Hally I am a triathlete so I swim training for competition.  I am also swimming to Rottnest as part of a team and participating in the Busselton Jetty swim. So my morning swims are usually 2500 to 3500 metres.  I am not a fast swimmer.

I do belong to our local masters swimming club and occasional swim in competitions for the club.

Hally you should get him into a swimming squad, my dd22 was a national swimmer, a lot of good 8 year olds are probably swimming 3-5 times per week.

Hally I agree with Yvette.  The main reason I am not a stronger swimmer is I didn't train and compete in a junior swim squad.  Your DS is at the perfect age to learn correct technique. One of my training partners is a product of swimming club and it is a pleasure to watch him swim.

Hally - Kareena Preston "Swimstrong" runs an excellent swim squad at Melville Pool. Both my DS's have swum with her and I can highly recommend her. If your DS wants to swim competitively that squad is the way to go.

I usually make Cyndi O'Meara's protein shake although i have started to make quirky jo's green smoothie.

Tonight am going to start soaking some raisins in milk for the Bircher Muesli tomorrow morning from QFITTM. Makes Chelsea's Chow Mein for tea tonight.

Ive always had breakfast just because i know i should and have had to force myself for years, but ive been having smoothies for about 12 months and green smoothies for about 5 and find i actually look forward to them these days and wouldnt dreM of missing them. We do have too big a portions at dinner though and do cut back most days but if something we really love we sneak in a bigger portion!
