That is sad Rowyfo, young children love their grandparents and we can teach them so much.  My 4 year old loves to cook with me and get out into the garden.  I play hide and seek, dress Barbie dolls and draw (badly I might add but she always knows what it is supposed to be) and although it sometimes wears me out, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hi Judy, this is a reply to a very old post of yours. Being a relatively new user of TMX and the forum, I decided to go through each section slowly, and what are you cooking, on the chit chat was my first. After 5 nights and only getting up to page 39, its going to be a long process, I already have 4 pages of hints and recipes I want to look at further, then I read your comment here, and how true this is. I didn't have my grandparents around when I was growing up due to my dads work. (overseas) and now I am trying to be the grandparent I always wanted to have. How precious the time is we spend with our grandchildren, the thing I find frustrating is,  as I am working, is trying to get time off during school hols, so I can spend more time with them, rather than just the weekend. As these times of the year are more often given to the parents of children, they tend to forget about the Grandparents. Luckily the person in charge of my department, has recently become a MIL and is wanting grandchildren (big time) so I think she understands where I am coming from when I explain to her how important it is to me. They love feeding the chooks, and finding there eggs, throwing sticks into the dam, checking out the cows and riding on the tractor with Pop, We recently picked sweat pea flowers to take home to mum, after planting seeds for them together in the garden. And yes, I too am exhausted when I take them home and could really do with another day off to get my strength back, but wouldn't change it for anything. Time passes  by too fast, but hopefully they will still want to spend time with 'nan and pop'

Gosh that was an old posting pumpkin pie - GD is almost 7 now.  Mind you yesterday with the 2 of them was a bit of a hassle with the little 3 year old being in a grumpy mood and the 2 kids fighting - I do prefer to have just one at a time but that is not always possible.  I hope you manage to get some quality time with yours too - most grandparents I know get worn out by the kids but we recover in time for their next visit.

Today I made my first batch of pasta (room for improvement there), served it with the remainder of my beef & spinach then I tried the Pavlova CP has on her favourite list.  That link isn't working so you will find it here if you scroll down.  It says to cook it 10-15 minutes.  I did 13 minutes and it is more like marshmallow than meringue so I would only cook it for 10-11 minutes next time. It is very nice though.

Salmon & onion puff pie based on an old Mother's Choice flour recipe (which is actually a salmon variation of Chookie's My favourite quiche)

Thanks girls - it's nice to do something completely different sometimes.  I have been without an oven for a month, fixed once but went again as soon as I turned it on.  Hopefully fixed for good this time.

The salmon quiche looks nice djinni373 - with the warmer weather quiche and salad go down well.

Thanks Judy. My presentation and photographic skills are usually found wanting next to the fabulous food pics on this forum  :D.

I posted that in a hurry and didn't see your pasta or that gorgeous pavlova roll! Hand made pasta looks time consuming. Is it worth making your own (I'm thinking in terms of theraputic process and look, taste etc IYKWIM :)

Needed something small and sweet to take tomorrow - just made caramel nut tartlets however no thermie (as the initial stage follows toffee making process - definitely no stirring involved!!!!) but very moorish!!!!  :)  :)

Today we had bread everywhere.  I taught 8 people how to make bread,  (without the TMX)  We did very simple No Fuss Bread,  and they loved the activity,  and in the end,  were quite disappointed with the stuff they have been buying.  Two groups made rolls,  in many shapes,  another pair made bread sticks,  and the last pair made Pizza scrolls.I made and cooked bread sticks with 100g of ground sprouted wheat and organic grains.  We ate this for lunch and they took their bread home.
For morning tea I made Janie's Cheese Scones,  (from UK TMX.)Served with Berry jam, (TMX) Tenina,s Apricot Preserves,  and TMX butter.  For lunch we ate tossed salad, Celeriac salad, (EDC), and 2 Quiches,  My favorite Quiche,  which became GF as I forgot to add the flour.  It was a bit soft in texture but tasted lovely.  Made the Salmon and Leek one that I have Posted.  And Falafals.  One of the visitors was having a Birthday so i made the EDC Torta Caprese with Lindt Chocolate and made a double amount of Lindt with mint to coat it. This is a beautiful cake. served with Strawberries and cream.  I know some have had difficulties with this cake .  I used Almond Meal and very large eggs and felt this may be the answer to the problems.
They wanted to see the TMX in action ,  so I made a Raspberry Sorbet.  They were very impressed.  Think there may be a sale or two there.  Each person paid $50 and all the money went to Cancer research.  This group has raised $30,000 in the last 6 years through small events like today. Amazing.  I could not have done this without help from DH. He set up the tables, made the coffee and washed the dishes as we soiled them.

So much food prepared beforehand Chookie, no wonder you have been a bit quiet on here of late.  Bet it was a fantastic day and now you need to go sit down and put your feet up - you deserve it.  Well done to you and your DH :-* :-*

You weren't without a camera for too long fundj.

The cake release might be a good idea for Christmas hampers this year - how long would a batch keep?
