Sorry to hear about the fur babies that have been lost this week.  I still talk to our last dog which we planted under a Lilac tree.  It's on the way to the washing line so most days I say hello.

Back to the kitchen, today I'm cooking yoghurt, golden syrup cake, muesli, green chicken curry with jasmine rice.

Today I made a loaf of 1/2 white 1/2 spelt bread
And Monkey Bread for DGS as a Birthday Cake for his 9th birthday tomorrow.
He has been poking at the bread til pieces fall out of it and then eating them.
I don't think it will last to get candles in it...

I am sorry I haven't been on for a while now. I am so sorry for the loss of your fur babies Dede and Maddy. Yes we love them so much don't we.

At long last a day off with no kids so got to spend some time in the kitchen and on here. Made lasagne for tomorrow night's dinner, no time to cook on work days. Also had a go at Isi's 'very normal' bread but not looking hopeful - think I had a problem with the yeast, defrosted some fresh yeast which I thought weighed 18g but thermie said it only weighed 5-10g. Dough didn't rise as much as I expected... will just have to wait for the taste test! Think I'll go back to the dry yeast  :(

Shopping day today so not a lot of cooking other than dinner. I called at the Kitchen Warehouse again. This time I bought some Dutch cocoa, more gold leaf gelatine and some orange oil to try Tenina's brown balls (can't remember what they are called) from her blog.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Today made the chicken stock paste from mwoc, added some tumeric as its so good for you.

Teninas french baguette from For Foods Sake ( steaming now)

Chicken, Leek & mushroom risotto for dinner, cookies style, absolute yum.

I had a friend visit this afternoon with her Grand-daughter who was watching with interest when I decorated their serve of plum upside-down pudding.  She comment that she would love to do that for her Mother so this is what she went home with, all her work with the decorating - proud as punch.  She is 10 years old.

Judy and Hally,  those buns are not really too dark.  just a little.  Lower the oven to 180 and cook them for another 5/10 mins. The commercial ones are cooked with steam so they get the lift without the heat.

Thanks Chookie, will give that a go next time.  I don't mind them for me but not a good look for visitors  ;)  Why don't we put some boiling water in the bottom of the oven then Chookie - have you tried it?

They are so eager to learn and her Grandma said I should pick her up from school every day and bring her home with me :D :D
She was a great taste tester, also ate a hot cross bun, drank a smoothie I made with watermelon, banana & spinach in it.  DH said she could do his job of official taste tester  ;) That's the sort of child I like having around, one who will try anything. It was a pleasure to teach her something, she picked it up so quickly and did a super job (as you can see) just by watching me do one on another plate.  I sent her home with a little bag of coulis and told her to freeze it and just snap little pieces off to thaw when she wanted to do some more decorating.
