Maybe you bought them for the Black Bean and Beef Nachos from Dinner Spinner Gretchen.

Not sure. That recipe calls  for salted black beans whatever they are. It has completely gone out of my head but now I have found them I better do something with them. Maybe they just snuck into my garage fridge when I was out.

Type Black turtle beans into the search box on the home page Gert - you will find them mentioned a few times.

You might be right JD I remember the thread and discussion so possibly did buy them for that recipe.   Or maybe I will make a soup. With chilli of course.

Gert would love the recipe for the rub, we have a heap of limes at the moment and really not sure what to use them for. Not sure why I wanted a lime tree so much  ???

I love limes more than lemons.

Make some of Tenina's Lemon curd with the limes. Lime tart. Tenina's lime salt is handy.  I just froze a lot of lemon  and lime juice.

You are lucky to have A lime tree.

I just did what you saw. Dried the limes , ginger, chillies in the oven. Ground them up  a bit of salt and that's it. If I were using it as a rub I might add some pepper and a bit of sugar. Just. Basic thing you could add smoked paprika too for a BBQ type flavour.

The fresh ginger I bought is so tender and flavoursome. I think I will  dry the excess rather than freeze it. The flavour was so hot and intense.

We just don't cook or eat enough in this house. As much as I would love to spend more time cooking the reality of being a full time working Mum and with a job that has me travelling quite a bit as well as night time phone calls to me team in London I'm just not able to. DH has had to do more of the cooking and he is much more of a basic cook. We eat very little sweets and as much as I love the lemon and lime curd we just don't eat it and end up throwing it away. I do love cooking with lime leaves but i thought it was only the kaffir lime leaves you can use in cooking. I'm hoping to make a lime pie for a school dinner on Friday evening but I'm pretty sure they have me down for main not desserts  :-[ I'll have to juice them and freeze the juice.

I think the price of limes in the supermarket would have had a lot to do with it Wonder - they are expensive and some don't seem to have a lot of juice.  The problem then becomes - what am I going to do with all these limes LOL.  I recently bought a kaffir lime tree because of some recipes using them and me not being able to find them in my local shopping centre. I'm hoping it doesn't grow too big and only supplies me with the odd leaf or two that I wanted it for.  I'll be keeping it in a pot to stump it's growth.

For a few leaves, it's a rip off Courton, same as bunches of herbs - I hate paying $3 for a bunch when you sometimes only want a bit and end up throwing the rest out. Much better to be able to walk out to the back yard and pick you own as and when you need it.

I have tried and tried. Pots, in the ground  in the house in the sun, in the shade. Nothing works for me. The rats, mice, dogs , cockatoos, giant grasshoppers and others. I have tried cheap and expensive plants. I have used gardeners , landscapers and interested Amateurs. I cannot even grow parsley. It is too wet, too dry too hot or too cold. I have spent hundreds of dollars on herbs in the past 10 years. Now I have given up. I buy the potted herbs from Coles and  Woolies and Bunnings use what  I need, plantthe rest and watch them being eaten or just die. I had some luck with chillies for  a time but the rats ate them.

Once when I had a chef staying with us  I went to Bunnings and bought about $100 worth or herbs, planted them and unashamedly told them it was my very own herb garden. Thank goodness they lasted about two weeks.
