Oops, the ones on the left are the Pizzelli and on the right the waffles.

I am being educated again as I have never heard of pizzelli ; the picture looks like the waffles but there must be a difference.

Julie, some years ago Melb was without gas for a couple of weeks.  We were OS so didn't have to worry.   DS came and raided our house for all electrical goods to give to my elderly mum.  The 2 things that people missed most were the showers and bread.  Mum got busy with the bread machine and kept her neighbors in bread. I hope you get the gas back soon.

Thankyou Chookie   :-*

Was told today at the hardware store that it could be next week before it's back on, but haven't heard that officially as yet.  Will get by, we take these sort of things for granted until they aren't there.  :)

Tried the recipe for the Pizzelli in the Waffle machine, doesn't work.  My waffle recipe produces light and crisp waffles.  These are heavy and solid. The chooks can have these.  The Pizzelli machine has a very heavy lid which compresses the batter to a thin and crisp result. See photo.

No worries Chookie, thanks for trying it for us.  :)

Troupie, when we were in Italy about 15 years ago we had these in Umbria.  For Xmas that year, I said I just had to have one of the machines.  We drove around Melb for a whole day trying to find one. Eventually we found one in a brewing shop.  My hairdresser, who is Italian says his Mum makes them for the whole family. They make a lot and keep forever, if not eaten. My hairdressers Mum sticks them together with chocolate , jam or Nutella. I make them about twice a year.

Chookie I can just imagine sinking my teeth into one of those.

JulieO if you have a large tub you can stand in, you could buy a pool pump, ( a small one for fish ponds) and a little hand shower thing. Put hot water in the tub, the pump will pump the water to the shower thing, then fall back into the tub and be recycled. We use this  when we are camping.  It's so much better than just washing yourself as the water can run all over you.

Cookie that certainly would be an option if I couldn't find anywhere suitable.   :)

This morning after my walk I went to the leisure centre where they have an indoor pool, gym etc and used their showers.  They wouldn't accept payment either which was nice and I was the only one in there at that time in the morning, so I'll do that each day until we get the gas back.  :D

CP, what a great idea! I hadn't thought of that  :-))  That would certainly be an easy option for sure.  :D

There have been some really nice things happening here.  Some people who have electric hot water systems have 'opened' their houses to people to go and have showers without any charge, also some businesses have put on free sausages sizzles and the like for families to go and have a feed.  The caravan parks are advertising showers for $5 per person.  I guess they have to cover their electric/water bills.

We have heard that gas may be back on Saturday or Sunday, I guess we'll know when they come around to turn it back on.  ;D

Ooh I think the caravan parks are being a little greedy, especially in a time like this. I feel that if they asked people for a donation to a local charity they would be more popular.

I have ES's prize winning Pumpkin Bread rising at the moment. To go with so me Pumpkin soup. It has all helped to use some of the pumpkin.

Pumpkin bread sounds great and I do love pumpkin soup. After using the same recipe for so long I tried a new one the other day and really loved it. Will do it once more before posting just in case it was a fluke.

Dinner tonight is pizza and all I have to do is make the dough and the GK will finish when they come home from the shops. My brother brought a pavlova today for lunch that he had made all by himself; I was pretty darn proud of him.
