I'll be doing a bit of cooking this week cookie as DD will be over from Melbourne next weekend and the family are coming to tea on Sunday night. We'll be celebrating her 50th a little early to fit in with her busy end of financial year work. She won't be celebrating though, she's not happy about big 5 0 sneaking up on her!

Cookie I used to make a fruit cake like that when first married and DH loved it. Which book is your recipe from as I cant find mine and would love to surprise him as I haven't done much cooking lately.

Troupie the recipe for the fruit cake is in an old cookbook that my home town produced many, many years ago. I can send you the recipe if you like.

I've finally got back to cooking. I've entered the Royal show this year, so I'm busy testing recipes. Last weekend I made some mandarin and choc friands, but wasn't overly impressed with the flavour. I also made some ginger Kouign-Amann pastries which were delicious.

I made some mushrooms "Benedict" yesterday - I got the basic recipe from a vegan blog that was using mushrooms as the bacon part of eggs Benedict (a couple of large Swiss Browns sliced and marinated in liquid smoke, oil and tamari then roasted in the oven). They were totally moreish and really easy. I used them to go with the baked beans I made.
DH has been experimenting with sourdough bread for a couple of months now and I think he cracked it yesterday - I came home to (what was left of) a lovely loaf of bread sitting proudly on the kitchen counter. He cobbled a couple of different recipes together and was 'tweaking' it week by week until he came up with one he was happy with.

Nice scones ES, good luck with this year's Royal Adelaide Show entries.
I've just made Tenina's leek and tomato tart

using bought puff pastry sheets. Wasn't sure on a couple of things, when to use the second half of the parmesan and how many tomatoes to use. The recipe states a punnet of red and a punnet of yellow tomatoes but didn't say whether to use them all or not. I used all of just 1 punnet of red tomatoes and my tart seems to have a lot more tomatoes on it than Tenina's. Also it says it serves 8, perhaps as part of a buffet but for a main I would say 4 serves with salad. I think I would prefer to par-cook the leek in some butter before topping the pastry with it in the first step.
I'm hoping it freezes and reheats well. I'll add some basil pesto before serving.

I've been eyeing that off Judy. I picked a heap of tiny tomatoes last night. We have a self sown tomato bush that keeps on growing and fruiting.
