I have downloaded it and already know I've wasted my money  :( It's just not set up well, and is a bit fiddly to look through. I'm not impressed with it at all

Mark Bittman's bestselling book "How to Cook Everything" is available in an app and costs $5.49 (US) for 2,000 recipes
Cool Amanda, I used enjoy reading his columns when NYTimes online was free.  Love this forum  :-*
The Thermomix app is tempting for obsessed fans like me but I don't think I've ever paid for an app yet, so frugal, except in the fancy blender department.

people complain about the cost of the app but considering its an online version of the intl thx book which costs a hell of a lot more...i think its value for money...but the forum yes is more htan enough and i love this place but I just cant help get all the books and apps i can get my hands on!!  each to their own but I wouldnt be complaining about the cost of the app...if you wanted that book then the app is good value..thats my opinon anyway  :)

I downloaded the app and have found it to be quite good.

I don't have the MWOC book so I have found it useful particularly when people on the forum refer to a recipe from MWOC, I can just look it up and make it based on the reviews from this forum.

I have to say that I agree that this forum is the best place to get ideas, reviews, recipes and support and I have made more things from recipes on here than I have made from any of the books I own, but the app is just an additional resource (that also costs a lot less than the book..and takes up less space)

Just my 2 cents worth

I've had the app for a while, downloaded here in Germany and it is okay.  I think it might be a little easier to use on an ipad, due to the larger size.  Have to decide, other another TMX or an ipad.  Tough decision!!!

Are you kidding?? What is the issue - $8.49?? It is not an alternative to this forum or even to the MWOC cookbook... it’s moving into a whole new medium –how innovative! I'm not one of those people who can memorise recipes so I loovve being able to whip out my phone at the supermarket and check out all the ingredients needed for a certain dish. The features are great - you can plan a whole week’s menu and put together a shopping list, tick off the ingredients you already have in the kitchen, email that list (to your husband!) make notes on each recipe, watch videos of many being made – it is soo cool!

I’m really surprised at the bitterness – if it wasn’t for the hard work, dedication and passion of the company in Australia we wouldn’t be able to even buy the machine here... you’d have to import it from overseas with no customer service and all the cost and drama that would involve....

If you don’t like the fact that you have to have a demo (wow – what a hassle; invite a couple of friends to see this machine you’ve been raving to them about - have someone else cook your dinner?)  to access some books - there are HEAPS of other books you can buy from head office. The books that are exclusively available through hosting a demo are there to help consultants grow their business...way to show support for your fellow Thermomix lovers who love it soo much they turned it into a business...

Would you rather just be able to go into Harvey Norman or Myer and buy your box and be done with it. Well buy a Thermochef then; they’re made in China and don’t have any iPhone apps or exclusive host only cookbooks... no cooking classes or after sales service either. Of course they probably won’t be around in a year or 2, but no matter, some other cheap replacement will probably pop up; then you can buy that!

KylieJade

I think some people like myself havethe book, have an ipad, i have shop shop app (free) also have evernote app (free)  take my ipad everywhere. I enjoy looking at my book and if i like the recipe the ingredients are already on my shop app, so i really dont need the app if  it had new recipes it wouod be different. My shop app does everything the shopping part of tm app does. If i didnt have mwoc i would buy the app instead.

I love my tm and all accessories but nothing to do with the tm is cheap. My consultant is fantatstic any books ibwant i email her she orders and drops them over for me. I have nearly all the cookbooks.

ooooo yes wow ....when it comes down to it yes everything thermomix is expensive when compared to similar items elsewhere but I understand the logic...look at Tupperware..;also expensive for what it is and you can buy alot of knock offs alot cheaper which wont last as long but you also have customer service and can change items for life which you cant with other type products and it is also a company that operates similarily and fix their prices...there are no sales or cutting of prices and thats what also keeps them around as well as the quality of the product for so many years...the entire package....re thermomix you wont get any other machine creating so many cookbooks for their product again as does Tupperware (or I have never seen one..alot come with a simple cookbook but not so many and constantly creating more)...i just got another three the other day...and they are good recipes too even if you dont use them in the Tupperware products and adapt them to other ways of cooking...think people need to look at it as not just another app but where its coming from...like KJ said even though her message was a little heated...its innovative and for that I agree...I downloaded the app and I have the book but think its not much for the moment (because I have the book already) but my consultant told me they plan to add to it or create other books in the same xay and I think once its more developed ie other recipes and not just this book it will be great....just another medium but not great on an iphone..too small imo...i do prefer cookbooks or my laptop (no ipad as yet lol)...peoples value for money is different and some want everything for nothing as well ...thats just life....in France some people wanted it for free...(shrugs) like I said different people, different views and its a bit naive to expect something like a product of Thermomix to be free..its never going to happen!!  Like i said before if you DONT have the book and you arent addicted to cookbooks or cookbook apps lol like me then it is good value plus it has videos of some of the recipes and other options such as markig favs, shopping list and menu planner...compared to the price of the book which over here is 40 euros so the 5 it cost over here for the app is great value (as long as it doesnt end up with costly updates...unless they are adding new recipes??!!)  :)

The issue to me is that compared to other iPhone and iPad apps it is expensive.  So if you are comparing apples with apples, it is an expensive app and you have to wonder why it is so dear?  Because they think their target market is a niche market and that we will pay?

It will be an app killer if they charge for updates.  Every app I have does free updates--I didn't even know that some apps charged!

I'm going to have a play with the lite version. Will report back with whether or not I'd buy app.
