Hally, when I was googling away I read where people have used these pie makers to make quiche and there was a photo of a pumpkin pie with no topping so the answer to your question is YES.

Fundj, I think the idea of a pie maker is the ease of cooking without having to turn the oven on.

I had an electric pie baker a few years ago but it only made two pies and was not all that efficient.  Also not easy to clean.

The only reliable one now available in the U.S. is the Breville and the reviews are iffy at best.

I have a stovetop pie iron that is about 80 years old that does a good job - bigger pies - it's cast iron and well seasoned so nothing sticks but I rarely  use it now because it too takes too much time to produce the pies.

I just make the half-moon shaped pies as I have several sizes of dough presses and bake them on a sheet pan.  I can turn out a dozen hand-sized pies in the time it would take me to make two in the electric baker.

I don't try to cut the dough into rounds.  I just use a pastry wheel to cut it into squares that are large enough for whichever size press I am using, fill and close the press and run a paring knife around the edges.  It wastes a little dough but I just re-roll it, cut into strips, and sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar, grated cheese and bake it for a snack.

I got an advance copy of Handheld Pies a few weeks ago and it is a great cookbook for anyone who wants to bake these little treats.  Lots of ideas of how to use the recipes for fillings you already have.

I just bought a pie maker - a sunbeam that makes 4 pies. You can also make quiches and muffins and damper it comes with a recipe book. It was $59.95 from Myer. We are trying it out tonight so I will let you know how it goes. It says in the book to use shortcurst pastry on the bottom and puff on top. It comes with a book 101 great pie ideas

;D Hally, I do egg and bacon pie, quiche Lorraine, zucchini slice/quiche, ideas are endless.

Chicken or meat pies using leftover casseroles or curries, spinach and riccotta is good.

I made heaps last weekend and froze them for lunches at work.
