Maybe try steaming the cut potatoes in the Varoma? Instead of boiling. I find that less water is absorbed when potatoes are steamed and Varoma steamed potatoes are excellent for gnocchi because of this.
I was also going to suggest steaming the potatoes, I have a recipe ( for potato wedges) somewhere that does just that then I think they are frozen and then I am typing this part very quickly they are dipped in beer batter whilst frozen and deep fried.  If you skipped the batter and cooked from frozen I wonder if that would work.  I'll go look for it and see if I have missed anything.  ;D

When I had an Actifry, I found the best way for chips was to cut, rinse and dry as best as possible in a tea towel.  I would then put them in the Actifry for 5 mins without any oil added.  The actifry has an arm that continually moves the food around the bowl, so this 5 mins would dry off any residual moisture left on the chips.
I would then add the 3 tsp of oil and set for about 25-30 mins depending on how many I was cooking.   :)

Perfect home made chips. I was only testing so I peeled and cut one potato into chip batons, rinsed well in cold water then microwaved in the last lot of rinsing water for 5 minutes (could probably have done for only 3 -4). I then carefully drained them and placed on paper towel in the fridge to cool. After 2 hours they seemed cold (and it was my coffee break time) so I sprayed the chips with some olive oil spray, preheated the airfryer to 200 for 5 minutes then cooked the chips for 10 minutes on 200. The result was perfect golden crunchy chips that were soft on the inside. As there was only the one potato I ate them straight away so can't say how crunchy they stayed.

I'll par boil some at lunchtime to cook with some crumbed chicken pieces for DS for a quick meal ahead of an early bb game tonight. I'm thinking I should be able to put a couple of pieces of chicken and enough chips in the fryer for his meal at the same time and cook for 10 mins.

I'll post photos tonight once I'm back on my ipad.

That sounds good Wonder, it had to be able to be done.

Julie's method of adding the oil to the air fryer after a time also sounds good, we don't have the arm on ours but that could work for us as well.

I have no doubt we will find the perfect home made chip recipe with our test team  ;D

This is super. A potato chips test team :D

Wonder, what type of potato did you use? All the cooking was done at 200C?

BZB, not sure on the type of potato they were a bag I got from Aldi. They are a small new potato, one of the cheapest bags.

I'm thinking I might also try par cooking then freezing so they are a quick alternative to purchased chips. Not sure if I should add the oil before freezing or after.

Judy we can't buy Maris Piper potatoes here. We have Nadine ( yuk), royal blue, red something, and occasionally cream delight and red delight.

Wonder I will try a different method tonight and see how they go.

Cookie, Nadine is the best - it's my actual name so maybe I'm biased! ;D

I don't like having to look for specific named potatoes Cookie, I just buy what's on special but I do try and avoid one type, Kestrel with a purple eye as they don't mash well for me even though they say they are good for boiling (guess that doesn't say mashing does it  :-)))
