Hi Fundj, Yes we chose to have the sink in the island so it was central to the kitchen. We also put it off center to allow for extra bench space on the one side that would be closest to the fridge - saves time walking back and fourth. Wouldn't have it any other way :)

Lisa,  I love your kitchen layout.  It is so open but compact at the same time and very well thought out.  I love the wall mounted wood heater and your power points at a nice waist height.
I am about to re-arrange my kitchen and I might steal a few ideas ;)

Your kitchen is truly lovely Lisa, I wish we had thought of the best way to include power points which can be easily accessed on the island bench - despite having 2 doubles the m'wave, d'wash and garbage disposal account for them as well they are not accessible - obviously!!  :)  :)

Now that I have my good computer back, I was able to have a good look at your lovely kitchen Lisa.  Love it and could work very nicely in there myself.  My DD has her wood fire wall mounted and power points in her island bench like yours too.
Thanks for sharing it with us and keeping this thread going.

Fundji, I must admit that I am not a fan of sinks being in the island.  It reduces the amount of work space, and having dirty dishes waiting to be washed or going in dishwasher does not appeal to me.  It was the one thing when I was renovating my kitchen that I stipulated - my island was to have nothing on it, and I don't regret it.  It is the best work space ever and I had my power points hidden so that they did not spoil the aesthetics of the bench.  It is all a personal thing - no disrespect to those who do have sinks in their island benches.

Thanks for all of the lovely comments guys. A lot of thought went into it. The kitchen in the previous house was teeny tiny so wanted to make sure this was exactly what we wanted. It is a bit bigger than what it looks in the pictures but had trouble reducing the size. Only half the kitchen is shown in the top pic :)

Kezza I'm the same as you, when we updated our kitchen a few years ago I moved the sink from the centre island bench to the side. I was after a single large stone benchtop where I could spread out as much as possible. I always found having the sink in the island bench very restrictive. When we have people over they always seem to congregate around the island bench and I now have room to have dips, drinks etc on the bench and still prepare more food while feeling apart of the action - much more room for the TMX to have pride of place as well.

Lisa, your kitchen looks great and obviously suits the way you work. I love the way you have the appliances in the island bench.

My forum name is short for my initials - DW (Debbie W). I earned the nickname deedub on a school trip where there were 3 Debbies and I've used it as a pseudonym ever since.
I've attempted to add a profile pic, hope it works. I'll post kitchen pics once I've got my TMX (if kitchen is clean enough  ;D)

Love your kitchen Lisa. Like kezza and Wonder I am not a fan of the sink  in the central bench. I have nothing on my central bench and love it. I use it to cook on and can put all the dishes etc back onto the sink. If we are having a lot of guests I put the food on there and people serve themselves and go to the table to sit down.
I think it works for some people and not others.

Now you've got the avatar right, posting the kitchen photos will be a breeze deedub.

I chose my name because my birthday is on Sep 9 - star sign is Virgo. All my children share 9s with me in their birthdays too. DD 19/10, DS1 9/12 and DS 9/9 (my birthday pressie two years ago!).

My family all share 9s too. My Mum is 9/3, older brother 9/9, mine 9/12, and younger brother 27/12 (and 2+7=9, and 3x9=27). My DS10 is 18/10 and the first thing my big brother said to me after he was born was "check the date! 2x9=18!!", my DS6 is 3/2 (and of course 9 is divisible by 3 so that works too - not that we were desperate to *make* him fit the pattern...).

My name is obviously ... well... my name, but with my surname initial on the end. I'd add a picture of my kitchen but I hate it. I could add a picture of my previous kitchen which I still miss after 4 years...

For Dec, we have had unbelievably cool days - as a consequence the sunsets are leaning to those of a winter's days.....thought I would share today's spectacle.
