Best Ever Poached Eggs
« on: November 28, 2011, 09:12:40 pm »
Ok so maybe being TM experts this is saying the obvious, but as a newbie and quite a few of my friends are, none of us seemed to know about this so sharing just in case there are any others!

My family love love love poached eggs however I have never quite been able to master them - until the beloved TM arrived!  Now we have the perfect poached eggs in minutes and everyone is happy!

I use boiling water as it is much faster - cover the bottom of the TM to just above the blades.  Place the simmering basket in the TM.  Get some glad bake, scrunch up and run under water.  Squeeze off excess water and flatten out into the base of the simmering basket.  Crack two eggs into the basket.

Put the lid on the TM including the MC.  Cook 4 1/2 minutes, reverse speed, Varoma temp.

Eggs will come out perfectly poached every time!

If you want to make more, simply replace the simmering basket with the VAROMA.  You may need to cook for a little longer depending on the amount of eggs!

Any suggestions for things I could make to accompany the eggs????

Thanks rjsj.  Have you checked out the breakfast section on the main page? There are only 4 pages to skim through to look for things to go with eggs and some other egg recipes there as well.  Things like baked beans or breakfast hash made the day before and just heated up would be a good accompaniment to poached eggs.

ooooo..... what an excellent idea! We love steamed asparagus and tomatoes with our eggs so I guess you could slice some thick slices of tomatoes and lay them in the varoma tray with the asparagus and steam them at the same time! Never tried steaming tomatoes but I know the asparagus would come out perfect. Will definitely try this on the weekend. Thanks for the tips RJSJ

Thanks rjsj, we are always on the look out for easy ways to poach eggs. With this recipe are they more steamed than poached? it seems like the water wouldn't be coming up above the eggs in the basket - is that correct or am I reading the method incorrectly?

Thanks fundj, they look great. Am I correct in my understanding that the water doesn't come up and cover teh eggs?

Will have to try this.  My consultant told me to crack the eggs, put them in silcone muffin cups and steam them in the Varoma but this definitely looks easier.

Because you scrunch up the paper, the steam does come above the eggs.  I guess they are steamed and not poached as the eggs never actually touch the water, however they come out perfectly soft and runny.  Give it a try and let me know your thoughts!
