Mine won't last long astarra.  Gave 4 pieces to Mum, 2 each to 2 neighbours and we are having 2 pieces each a day.  By tomorrow night it will be all gone and I only made it yesterday.  Nothing has moved as quickly in this house as this one  ;D

It moved fast here too. I had to make a secOnd batch lol. I don't think it would freeze very well ?

Astarra I don't think Vanilla slices freezes well at all, the custard turns to mush :(

I must have led a sheltered life, have never heard Balfours vanilla slices called that girls :P

I agree with Mandi, the custard probably wouldn't survive in tact :P

JD  You must have been very sheltered to have missed that one.
The very very best 'snot block' comes from the Pinnaroo Bakery. 
They are evn better than the old Balfours version.,

You guessed it.  I am a bit of a connoisseur of the humble 'snot blocks'.

I've never heard them called that either, and they're one of my favourites!
I used to love the Balfours ones, but now I think they're pretty tasteless. My local bakery does a fantastic one with passion fruit icing. I try hard to stay away from the bakery as its bad, bad, bad.
Mind you, I can't wait to try this recipe.

OMG,  made this today.  Very very easy.  Had visitors for dinner and although this was not on the menu,  they all ate some. I iced them with passionfruit icing.  What surprised me most was that they were easy to cut.  Delicious. The Raspberry cream match sticks were made with the sheet of leftover puff pastry. Not TMX.

I'd really like to try this but I don't want to use custard powder - since a major reason for getting a TMX was to cut down on packet stuff. Does anyone have a suggestion/alternative?

Deedub, I know what you mean.  Before I bought custard powder I checked out  the ingredients and I think the one I ended up with was Organ ? ??    The custard powder gives the slice the ' authentic ' colour.  I would not want to fiddle with the recipe as it is of a perfect consistency.
