Thanks everyone! I think I’ve narrowed it down to a choice between a tm31 and the Magimix cook expert. I’m a bit reluctant to purchase second hand at the moment, so I’ll think on it a little longer.

Hello everyone- I hope you are all managing to stay well and sane during these uncertain times. It’s good to see familiar names. We are all well, and Trying to keep isolated as much as possible. My method of dealing with stress is, as always, to cook. Last night, after 9 years of constant use, my Thermochef died in the middle of grinding nuts for a curry. I would like to replace my machine if possible, but am overwhelmed by the choices available now. There are 3 models of Thermomix on the market plus offerings from Kitchenaid, Tefal and Magimix. I would value the advice of members of this forum. Obviously, in these uncertain times I am hoping to limit the amount to spend. Is the T6 worth it’s weight in gold, or should I buy a TM31 or some other machine? Thanks, Sue

Those biscuits sound lovely - I must give them a try. I haven't done any baking for such a long time, so I felt sorry for my family and made a batch of chic ripple biscuits and a batch of Kimmyh's yummy ginger biscuits. I jam to take a plate to lunch yesterday so made a batch of butterfly cakes filled with homemade jam using the Quicker than a packet cake recipe. It's such an easy recipe and makes exactly one dozen medium patty cakes. I also made some mini tarts and filled some with passionfruit and lemon curd and others with rhubarb curd, a little cream and a blueberry.

We love ginger in our house, so I was happy when I came across this recipe. These are lovely biscuits and won't last long as everyone is eating them

I made a white cheese sauce in Thermie, mixed it with cooked macaroni, a tin of sweetcorn, a tin of tuna, salt, pepper and the juice of a lemon in a baking dish, topped it with grated cheese then warmed it in the oven and grilled it until the cheese topping was bubbly and brown. It was easy as, and the family all loved it.

Just bumping this as I've made it twice this week. Once in a heart shaped tin, topped with orange curd and cream, and again today, I made it into butterfly patty cakes filled them with lemon and passionfruit curd and cream. Such an easy and delicious cake.

I coordinate our book club with our local library. Once a year, we are sent a list of books in the collection and are asked to select books for the coming year. In return, we are expected to donate a set of 8 books once a year. We have enjoyed most of the books we selected this yeR, but there were a few duds. This month we are reading Kate Morton's The Secret Keeper, and last month we read The Secret Life of Bees - both of which were good picks

Wow, what a day! Yesterday started off warm and sunny and it was hard to believe that storms were coming. Come they did, and by the time I got the kids from school it was cold, wet and dark. We walked into the house about 4pm and the power went out. It was ok at first and the kids went out into the street with their friends and had fun playing in the puddles and the rain and throwing water at each other. Problem was that we had no hot water for them to have a warm shower afterwards. We have gas hot plates, so I chopped up and marinated some chicken and prepared some veggies before it got dark. We also found our candles and played some board games. DH came home early and had an interesting drive home with no traffic lights working. Some of our neighbours came over and we opened some wine. We listened to the radio and tried to find out why the whole state had lost power and when it would be likely to come back on. As the evening wore on, we also lost mobile phone coverage. Our neighbours stayed for dinner as they didn't have any way to cook their planned roast. I cooked stir fried chicken and noodles by torchlight and we ate by candlelight. We played some card games and went to bed with the power still off. I woke up around midnight as the lights suddenly came on as the power had been restored. The front garden is partly under water and my tomato plants have fallen over, but overall we have got off lightly so far. It's still wet, rainy and windy and is expected to continue all day.

Thanks. I did learn cake decorating over 25 years ago, but not with buttercream. It was all rolled or plastic icing with Moulded flowers and delicate piping work. I haven't done much since I had my kids, so I'm having fun playing with buttercream I had to buy new icing tubes as all mine are very small, designed for Royal icing work.

Gorgeous cake Jamberie. I baked some raspberry and lime friands, quicker than a packet cake cupcakes gingerbread bickies and a birthday cake for DD. I made my quick mix choc cake and covered it in the Swiss meringue buttercream that I had in the freezer left over from the cake I made a few weeks ago. I made a strawberry purée and mixed it into the icing, and put sliced strawberries in the middle layer and topped it with leftover buttercream roses from the freezer.

I've been a little busy of late and haven't posted for a while. My brother asked to make a 70th birthday cake for his MIL, and it ended up bigger than Ben Hur! I had a lot of fun piping the buttercream flowers and decorating the cake, but I hate to think how many eggs and butter I used. I made Swiss Meringue buttercream for the first time. I was surprised how delicious and easy it was, although I had to wait for it to firm up in the fridge after I had mixed it. The only drawback was that the cake was required for the weekend before my show entries were due. I got over excited when putting in my show entries and put in rather too many. I entered bread, scones, cream puffs, curds, friands, after diner treats, standing biscuit Christmas tree and high tea feature class. I was really pleased with my results as I won first for my Christmas tree, third for my after dinner treats and commended for my scones. DD entered Jubilee cake and scones and was awarded second prize for her scones. All the leftovers from the high tea plate came in handy for Father's Day
