My thoughts are this.

A place where we can convene inside all together. Where we can eat together with someone else doing the cooking. This avoids  having the locals doing all the work organising  separate accommodation and providoring.

If one venue does not have enough rooms then there may be a cluster of accommodation with a central  venue for socialising.

Not a motel. Not a  bunk house. A place where everyone can choose to share a room with one or two others or on their own. Preferably with ensuits. Each person responsible for making their own sleeping arrangements inside the venue ie: buddy up or not.

A place where can mill about inside together by a fire perhaps.

If we stayed in the city there would be lots of day trips available for Sat. If we went regional there would be tours available as well. Don't forget the Adelaide Market is fantastic and there are tours inside the markets. Closed Sunday and Mondays.

All the regions have something great to offer.

Winter would be cheaper.

Meet Friday evening at venue for dinner

After breakfast on Sat. Depart tours. Could  be one to or even three different ones .

Meet for lunch somewhere.

More touring then

Back to venue for dinner Sat night  with socialising at the venue. Goodie bags.

Breakfast at venue and make your way home together or separately.

This would involve  two brekkies and two dinners at venue. One lunch out . Two nights accommodation.

I am thinking it would be no fuss no bother. May be more expensive than Margaret River or not.

Some may choose to stay longer or arrive earlier.

With a long lead in time and the venue dates set in STONE then all we have to do is save our money and turn up.

A deposit will be needed once the venue is settled.  Closer to the date  a car pool needs to be set up. Those who have to cancel  find someone to take their place.

If it is a conference type venue I see no reason why partners can't be invited . They can hang together in the bar or whatever but certainly would add some frivolity to the tours .

I am thinking a limit of 40 which may involve 20 to 30 rooms.  Some may want to come for the day on Sat only or maybe one night only.

Anyway those are my thoughts with a view to keeping it simple.

Getting to Adelaide is much easier and cheaper for most ppl rather than one side ot the country or the other.

Gert

Uni, if I take the corolla, do you think we could share the driving? The discovery (it's an auto) would probably be better for a long drive though, if DH will slum it and drive my car for a week or so?

Amanda, I'm willing to give you a hand with finding a venue. I had a lovely weekend away at Victor Harbour recently. There were about 10 of us sharing a house and we had a lovely day in Pt Elliot perusing the shops. We could do something similar to Gracetown and hire a number of houses, or we could investigate apartments at the Whalers Inn http://www.bluffview.com.au/accommodation.html. We could organise a bus tour to McLaren Vale...
Or, we could stay in cabins in a caravan park either in Adelaide or the Barossa, or stay at a resort in the Barossa.
I don't think that will will be able to match CP's prices though:(

I think after the venue find see what dates are available. Set the date and see who can come. Some may be able to come and some may not. That is what happen at Gracetown.

Personally I would like to see us all able to be together in one place as I was unable to really get to meet some of the others staying in other houses. That is no criticism at all be because  it was all wonderful but it would have been nice.

Also two or three different tours on Sat would mean you could have. Shoppers tour. A winers tour and perhaps a gluttons tour.  I want to do it all so a gluttons tour for me. LOL  ;D

Great ideas, Gert.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Yep, I like Gertie's ideas too ;D I'm happy to go along with everyone else. Don't mind sharing a room. Different tours sound good. And if winter is cheaper then that sounds excellent to me ;D

Good idea.

Probably cheaper to fly from Sydney than drive. I just got a fare for March for $119 on Virgin..

I am just as happy to stay in a hotel in Adelaide and take a day tour. Big hotel plenty of rooms, big bar to meet in and go to a Restaurant for dinner.

Can you get to the Barossa  a in a day tour? Been a Long time since I have been there. Handorf? Love that place. Then There is the market and  Giganis Bros.

No need for carpooling and people could choose what they want to spend on a room.
