Our area is okay Judy (thankfully).  They say it could be off for 5 days in some areas.  :o

Spoke too soon.  :-)) Woke up to no hot water today, seems like the whole town is now off.  Will have to resort to heating water to have a wash and will have to wash my hair over the sink.  Will get by though.   :)

Is there a problem with SA gas ladies?Sounds as though it could make things difficult.

JulieO and Katie my Mum always used to use lard and she had the most beautiful puff pastry you could imagine too. She broke all the rules I was taught but gee her pastry was delicious.

I forgot to mention that I made a batch of Garlic Confit.

Cookie, apparently there was an earthquake which has damaged the pipeline that services regional SA.    :o

I think it's just the thought of lard which is a turn off, but I guess if we are only having one at a time (and freezing the rest), it won't be too bad.  :P

Katie, many thanks for that, I will be giving these a go soon for sure.  :D

That is awful JulieO. It is amazing how easily services etc can be disrupted.

Yes, the gas co came around today and turned the meter box off and will come back and turn it back on again when the line is repaired.  Can you imagine having to do that to so many houses.   :o  Definitely looks like it's going to be a good few days before we get supply back.

Tomorrow DH will get our bbq gas bottle refilled so at least I can have that option to cook with as well as the TM.  8)

Very inconvenient Julie. The bbq will be a good option for cooking.

You would have laughed at me this morning.  I had what I thought was a brilliant idea.  There's a shower block at the yacht club down at the beach where I know some people have a shower each morning after having a swim.  I thought why not go there after my walk and have a shower, so took all the essentials to do this and went to have one.
Was happy with the nice clean facilities, so  I turned on the hot water tap to let it warm up while I undressed and got my stuff ready.  3 mins later, still only cold water coming out the shower head  :-))  What to do, what to do.  Thought b***er  it and stepped under the cold water.  :o  Yipes what a shock.  Fastest washing of hair and shower of my life and I was tingling from the cold, but I felt so good and energised after it!  ;D  Was great to come home and do hair and get dressed for the day.  It's only been 1 day, however shall I cope  ;D

Oh no Julie, it's a brave woman who steps under a cold shower at such an early hour.  I'd be boiling the kettle from now on, what a dreadful situation to be in.  Perhaps it would be a good time to take a little holiday further south where they're not affected by the gas situation.   It's only the hot water situation which would affect me, I rarely use my stove top these days, my oven is electric, I have a couple of webers and the dear old TMX of course. It must be difficult for those with big families.

Yes I was very brave (or very stupid!)   ;D I must say though, that I've felt so energised this morning.  Surely it can't be cos of the cold shower?    :o

Apparently the show grounds are opening their shower block for anyone wanting to use the facilities.  I might just drive by there tomorrow morning after my walk and see if they are open that early.  Would be a good time to get in and out before the onslaught that I can imagine happening later in the day.  :D

Yes it's the hot water that bothers me more than the cooking to be honest.  Can always work around that one, but to miss a morning shower is awful no matter what else you do, it's not the same.  There are so many worse things happening in the world than me not having hot water I know, so I'll leave it at that.  :)

Yes, get in and out before the mob arrives Julie.  You never know, it might be a communal shower and you never know who you'll end up in a cubicle with LOL.  I understand what you mean about not being able to shower daily, it wouldn't be the same with a bowl of warm water but then again, better than nothing.

I had 6 large cans of tuna in the pantry  :-)) so decided to make the Tuna noodle and corn casserole as I haven't made it for ages.  Had some for lunch, put some in the freezer and will take some around for Mum.  A nice light lunch.  I've also made the rice pudding from MWOC for Mum. I use less rice and cook it for 10 minutes more.

I shouldn't be looking on this thread, it makes me jealous as I can't cook anything in my Thermie. C160 error, so it has to go back to Perth.
I'm cooking lamb shanks in the slow cooker instead and will be making a Chicken Curry in my Le Creuset later today.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Julie, some years ago Melb was without gas for a couple of weeks.  We were OS so didn't have to worry.   DS came and raided our house for all electrical goods to give to my elderly mum.  The 2 things that people missed most were the showers and bread.  Mum got busy with the bread machine and kept her neighbors in bread. I hope you get the gas back soon.
Today made 3 jars of Quince and Apple Jelly. Also a lamb and pumpkin casserole in mini SC.

Tried the recipe for the Pizzelli in the Waffle machine, doesn't work.  My waffle recipe produces light and crisp waffles.  These are heavy and solid. The chooks can have these.  The Pizzelli machine has a very heavy lid which compresses the batter to a thin and crisp result. See photo.
