Made Irish Wheaten Bread and the Honey & Soy Chicken.
Tarasis  have you got a recipe for wheaten bread?

Sorry for the delay Summerdayz, depends on how you like your Wheaten Bread.

If you like it a little crumbly, then take the Caraway Soda Bread I added but substitute the white flour for Wholewheat flour (last batch I made was 490g Wholewheat, 10g plain white flour (405 in Germany) and 20g self raising flour because that was all I had available). It works well and my kids have been demolishing it, indeed the round loaf I made the other day is nearly all gone and I need to make another one.

Another version to try is:

450g wholewheat flour (or white flour if you are making white soda bread/farls/scones)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda (bread soda)
425ml of sour milk or butter milk

Fully Preheat the oven to 230c
Mix together the ingredients and turn into a rounded bread shape (dough should be soft and not too wet)
Place onto baking sheet or into a tin, if on baking sheet scour the top with a serrated edge knife, about 1" deep in a cross shape.
Put into the oven and immediately turn the heat down too 200c and cook for 45 minutes
If in tin, remove and place back in oven for 5-10 minutes or till its fully cooked (tap the bottom, it should sound hollow if cooked)

This is more traditional, as it doesn't use butter or sugar.

Dear Thermy compatriots. Thank you all lots for your good wishes. I am doing fine but certainly sore.   just living out of my freezer. Today I am having my salmon pate with left over salad for lunch and pre-made cottage pie followed by apple cinnamon pudding for dinner tonight.  I now have an assortment of store bought biscuits and buns brought in by visitors so I am well stocked.

Take care and get all the rest you can, Dot.  I'm sure you know that getting enough rest and eating the best diet is most important for a quick recovery.
I had a lumpectomy six years ago this December 27 and while the surgery itself was not so bad, it took me a while to recover from the anesthetic and I needed more than a week to get my head back in gear.
Aren't neighbors and friends wonderful when something like this happens?

DD, take care and look after yourself.  It's not always easy to go slow, but try to take things more slowly for a while and it will all help with the healing.

I made JulieO's Cobb Loaf  today with some slight changes.
Doubled the recipe and substituted 1/3 whole wheat flour and a generous teaspoon of date sugar instead of caster, and I did not brush the tops with egg - frankly, I forgot all about it…(possible senior moment but I was juggling several things at the same time).

The only other difference was that I put the TWO dough balls into bannetons to rise - it's easier for me to just tip them out onto a sheet pan and they keep their shape nicely.

I checked internal temp till it was to 205° F., or 96° C.    Turned out lovely.

Very tasty and a substantial crumb which should hold up well when dipped into bean soup.  (Also cooked some heirloom beans called Snowcap - large beans with a meaty texture and a flavor like that of an Irish potato, perfect for supper on a chilly evening.

I have just finished making the Christmas pudding.  Did as much as I could in the "magic mixer" and had to finish off in a large bowl.  We'll see what it is like in 4 hours time.  We are going out for dinner tonight so no need to make a meal for tonight.

oh yum i loved sherbet as a kid...saw the recipehere..is it your recipe rara or someone else?

today i made charabelles caramel, date and banana loaf...yum and so nice with bits of banana in it as well and not mixed all in, maddys cheese and bacon rolls but with cubed chicken slice instead of bacon and etorki cheese (was yum), maddys beef burgers but didnt put the chicken soup mix but instead put some dried fried oignon and some chicken stock paste (yet to taste but kids are certainly enjoying it) and that was me for today..

oh and a huge thankyou to whoever it was that pointed out about oven thermometers to check real temp..got mine yesterday and found my oven was off by about 30 degrees C so alot well at least what i had found online as conversion temps to gas marks as I didnt have a guide for the oven in the manual I found online and it seems to change depending on the oven so i was averaging out the differences ... anyway no wonder cakes and bikkies were not liking my oven lol way too hot
