Frozzie when we built this home 4 yrs ago my  stamping the foot moment occurred when the builder tried to tell me that the extra room in the family room would be better than a store room - will take a pic and you will understand!!!!!  :)  :)

that drives me nutty when 'professionals' start to tell you what is best..hello who is paying you so do what I ask dammit lol  OMG after living in oz its hard for that in France as over here the 'professional' knows best and customer service does no exist as I know it..shocking really but people just accept it as normal..ever at our wedding DH and I argued with the caterer as he didnt want to do what we asked as he knew best..the fact is he didnt know best as we had a certain element of aussie guests and he would have no clue what they wanted anyway he ended up apologising but not before a huge argument...DH nearly fell over when we were in oz and had to take somethig back for some reason or antoehr and no questions asked lol..he couldnt beleive it was that easy as over here you need to argue to the extreme and then there is no guarantee that you will get what your after...

sorry off on a tangent again lol  ;D

I think DD suffered a few OMG moments as a result of poor customer service while living in London for 2 yrs and probably why she excelled at her position in the PR dept at Heathrow working for BOA  :)  :)

I have heard that London is actually not too bad compared to other european countries (mainly for locals going over)..alot better than France anyway..even after 11years I am still in shock at some things and makes me crazy to think why nobody does anything or says anything....we are often called exigent clients lol DH and I and we are far from exigent we just want a product that works properly and is esthetic....same as tolls here htey go up and up and up eveyr year and nobody says anything ..when that happens in oz people boycot the road intheir thousands lol and they are nowhere near the toll costs over here...ahhh its great we are all different but some thigns people should stand up to ..baffles me why they dont when for other thigns they will riot and go crazy???

Think we must have been lucky when we  built this house 7 years ago.  Only had one issue with a sliding glass door which slides into the wall cavity.  They didn't want to do it,  but we insisted.  We had 200 changes to the original plan. We got what we wanted. I designed the kitchen. I have a pantry as big as most kitchens,  with a large sink.  Can dump all the dirty baking dishes in there when entertaining,  and slide the door on the mess. ;D   Once when entertaining,  I dumped all the roast dishes in the sink,  in the pantry, turned on the hot water tap ,  and forgot about them.  Water began seeping out under the door.  Living in the country  can be difficult to get service people to call. Once we bought 2 upright freezers,  and when they were to be delivered,  only 1 arrived.  The delivery man had decided that someone had made a mistake.  It was him and he had to return and get the other one.  Our local Council is the only area where we have experienced poor service.  Most shop people and service people are great.

Chookie the kitchen design caused me sleepless nights - as I wanted the open feel, not wanting the kitchen to be a room as I become tied of being away from everyone when entertaining.............hence our gallery type kitchen emerged but I love it - family room is on one side with the dining room on the other - a sliding glass door leads from the kitchen onto the back deck where we eat most of our meals during summer.  As we overlook the city the view is pretty special - quite mystical on foggy mornings!!!!

wow there is some talented people out there with there fabulous birthday cakes. I have ben absent from the forum for a few days and now I have so much reading to do.
Today my DD and her friend again done the cooking, they made a jelly cheese cake slice, some Anzac biscuits (But they forgot the rolled oats lol) Still tasted great. A marble cake, choc chip cookies, Pizza scrolls and some Cheese and bacon rolls. Wow they are doing such a great job and I'm not complaining at all.

Your not wrong there, They really enjoy it and its great to see them having fun and being so proud of their achievements. My DD's friend loves it as her Mum doesn't cook very often at all.

Yeah its not unusual for me to have a house full of kids most weekends. My next door neighbor works on the weekend and leaves her kids home alone (I don't approve as they are only 8 and 11) So they end up here nearly every weekend so I figure they may as well join in.
