Yesterday I made these spiced nuts which taste really nice.  The recipe came with the new spice grinder that I've just bought to replace my 18 year old one which is still working, but the blades are getting a bit blunt.

I will post the recipe in case anyone would like to give it a go.

SPICED NUTS
Substitute different nuts and spices for the ones suggested if liked.

1 whole cinnamon stick, broken into pieces
2 star anise
1 whole nutmeg
¼ tsp whole cloves
170g pecans
160g almonds
140g walnuts
50g brown sugar
1 ¼ tsp table salt (I didn't use as much as this)
pinch cayenne pepper
1 large egg white, lightly beaten until frothy

Preheat oven to 160C. Line a rimmed baking tray with baking paper; set aside.

Place the cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg and cloves in a spice grinder.
Pulse a few times and then process until finely ground.
Empty into a large bowl.

Add the sugar, salt and cayenne to the large bowl; toss to combine.
Add the nuts, mix to combine and then add the egg white and mix until all the nuts are coated.
Spread evenly on the prepared tray and place in the preheated oven.
Bake, tossing every 10 minutes, for about 30 to 35 minutes, allow to cool.
Place in a glass container.
 :)

They look and sound nice Julie - wonder if the TMX can grind those spices, the whole nutmeg in particular.  May be a good one for Christmas hampers.

I made Farfalina's New York Rye Bread yesterday.  I am very happy with the result.

For dinner I made cauliflower cheese from a recipe I converted out a WW or FC cookbook titled Vegetables. It was tasty and very reasonable in calories according toe the nutritional information in the book. DW and my regular version of Cauliflower cheese is not very friendly to our cholesterol levels and waist lines.

Those nuts and pasties look amazing!

We're having Chicken Bangers & Mash today.

I made a Chicken Onion & Mushroom Gravy in the TMX... will fry up the sausages and then simmer in the gravy. Do my mash in the TMX...

Nothing too exciting here. But I have been experimenting lots, I'll have to remember to post more.

The pasties and the nuts look delcious. I've just put some sausage rolls into the oven to put in the freezer. I wanted to do some bread today as we have been on shop bread (disgusting) but I have DD sent home again and our budgie is ill and I have to take him down to the vet. It was harder to get an appointment there than the doctor.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Cookie, Hope DD is feeling better soon and your budgie makes a full recovery. Don't know why it is so hard to get a vetenary appointment? They know how to charge too. I was shocked at the bill for my Harry's regular injections. Suppose that's what we do for our pets.

Yes, I agree, one cute dog.  He looks like he has just been to the hair dressing salon and had a perm.
Best wishes to your DD Cookie and I hope the budgie will be OK.

Supper. Warmed ripe figs with fresh Quark. Topped with Helene's balsalmic reduction.
