Super effort Chookie - we always have a Pink Ribbon Breakfast every year on our back deck - usually about 25 people with a donation box plus sales of ribbons, pens etc.  I provide all the food usually raise about $600, so nothing in comparison to your mammoth efforts Chookie!!!!  :)  :)

Thanks girls - it's nice to do something completely different sometimes.  I have been without an oven for a month, fixed once but went again as soon as I turned it on.  Hopefully fixed for good this time.

The salmon quiche looks nice djinni373 - with the warmer weather quiche and salad go down well.

Being without an oven has to be a real pain!  I have a backup solar oven, in case of severe disruption here.
I would think that Australia would be an ideal place to use one, particularly in the summer.
I got mine years ago when we used to go camping in the high Sierras and while it was cold, there was plenty of unobstructed sunlight.
Mine looks sort of like a satellite dish but folds up.  The newer ones are much smaller and more efficient.
I could bake a pan of biscuits in 10 minutes  and it was great for frying fish and cooking stew and even the bears wouldn't get near it.

I found this link by a simple Google search.   That Sunflower one looks economical as a backup oven.

Judy and Fundj, love the look of the Pav rolls.  Are they difficult to roll?

Fundj, I rolled mine from the long edge - which recipe did you do?  The one I used didn't tell you which end to roll until it cooled down but I kept reading and after filling it with cream and fruit, it say to roll from the long end.

Chookie what an amazing day you had.  I'm not surprised that everyone loved it.
Ladies the pavlova rolls look awesome. I'm just learning to do roulades for dinner, so may try a pav roll too.

Andie those videos are great - excellent ideas for camping.  I seem to manage quite OK without an oven for a prolonged period of time - use the weber for roasts and bread, microwave for reheating, pie maker is handy without an oven and the TMX does most of my cooking anyway.

Even though I now have solar power, I worry about disruption of electricity and gas - after the '94 quake the gas lines in town were compromised.  I have a big propane tank but it had to be inspected before I could use it because the concrete slap on which it is mounted cracked.   The power here was off for two days and for the following week we had intermittent blackouts.
I used the solar oven a lot - even though it was January, we had mostly sunny days, cold but bright and it worked nicely.
I also have a large portable stove that uses a smaller propane tank and I cooked for the neighborhood because not everyone who lived here then was prepared for it.
